Shop local labels, and meet some of Singapore's most well-known creatives at Multiply: A Majestic Playground, a two-day event happening on 27 and 28 May
We’re not going to lie: We’re still reeling from the news of the closing of New Majestic Hotel on 1 June. The heritage boutique hotel was revered for saluting Singapore’s creative scene, with then-emerging artists designing its shared spaces, and top creatives personalising its rooms. So to commemorate its dedication to local talent, we can’t think of a better send-off than Multiply: A Majestic Playground – a two-day event happening at its premises from 27 to 28 May, that’ll see a gathering of over 50 of Singapore’s best independent creatives.
Organised by Carolyn Kan, founder of Carrie K and KEEPERS, in collaboration with Straits Clan, this pop-up event will gather award-winning fashion designers, artists and craftsmen as they showcase their finest work through installations and showcases. Here’s what you can expect.
The first floor’s all about whetting your appetite with great grub, music and locally made wares. Satiate your sweet tooth with artisanal ice cream by Creamier and handmade choco truffles, or chow down on savouries by local chefs, including Jeremy of Preparazzi. Don’t forget to wash it all down with steaming cups of coffee by Choice Cuts Goods – the same folks who’ll be spinning sweet tunes and putting up vinyl for sale. Before you ascend to the second floor, pop by the ping pong table by PLAYplay – it’s surrounded by floral and art installations.
On the second floor, you’ll enter a world of art, with artist, craft and design studios. Watch illustrator, Lucinda Law, create life-like watercolour paintings, uncover Carrie K’s installations through jewellery displays, or (literally) sniff out Code Deco’s Singapore Stories through smell.
The third floor is a haven for supporters of the local fashion scene. Pick up a show-stopping hat from Singapore’s own milliner Eskpade, learn how to create fabric prints from art pieces with Li Ying of Ying The Label, and discover exquisite pieces by homegrown designers like Max Tan and Biro, Gin Lee, Matter Prints and RÊVASSEUR. The incredible show of creativity culminates at the top floor – immersive art installations by renowned artists like the notorious Sticker Lady and opportunities to be inked by renowned tattoo artists await.
