The effortless, polished aesthetic you’ve always envied from some of your favourite street style stars? Affordable luxury label Maje shows us how it’s done with its fall/winter 2017 collection
We know, we know… the fashion world is tired of the elusive French girl style. But let’s face it: not everyone can capture that Parisian je ne sais quoi. We wanted some insider tips in that department and try something different to our usual style, so asked French label Maje if we could dip into its latest collection. Does playing dress-ups count as a hard day’s work?
The Parisian label nails a vibe that’s edgier than your average French-girl aesthetic – think delicate florals and ruffles mixed with structured tailoring, or a billowy blouse under a chic leather minidress. This, coupled with incredible attention to detail and rich fabrics, makes Maje a go-to in the world of everyday luxury. We picked our favourites from the fall winter collection. And not-so-secretly want to keep all of this loot…
Camelia, Lifestyle and Fashion writer
London-bred Cam loves layering, so much so that she instantly gravitated towards these pieces. Her instant fave? This figure-hugging knit cardigan ($350). It’s a versatile piece that will bring life to your basics.
“The multi-coloured knit cardigan ($835) gives my all-black #ootd a splash of colour. Plus, it’s so chunky and cosy, keeping me snugly warm on a cold day in the office.”
“I’ve got leather jackets in my wardrobe, but nothing comes close to this ($1,150). It’s got an aviator cut, so it looks a tad more masculine. It also comes with a detachable shearling collar so I won’t look out of place walking around in this in Singapore. With this faux fur bag ($520), the studded straps, chain straps and press studs keeps it a little punk rock, and more… me.”

“I love full looks, so it’s no surprise that I chose two complete outfits. The first look is everything – it’s got the romantic billowing sleeves ($370) and high neckline perfectly juxtaposed with the gritty, urban look of this button up mini leather dress ($835). Together, it comes off looking playful and age-appropriate.”
“The second look is a fall favourite I couldn’t wait to jump on. Plaid and tartan blazers are is this season’s must-have – plus who doesn’t love a double breasted two piece suit ($690 for blazer, $395 for pants)? I love how powerful it makes me feel, but I’m wearing this with boots to keep it modern. Despite being made from tartan printed wool, the fabric’s light enough for Singapore weather.”
“I love leather bags, but they usually look like a variation of each other. This one, ($455) stands out with its fun fringing, and has a magnetic closure to keep my mess concealed. I’d remove the strap for nights out.”

“Anyone who knows me knows that I’m all about crazy patterns and I’m big on my outlandish jewellery. So dressing a little more ladylike is a bit of an adventure for me. I love the floaty feel of this silk blouse ($480) with the on-trend circular zip.”
“Paired with the Prince of Wales-style patchwork check skirt ($340), the whole outfit’s preppier than I’m used to, but I feel really good in it – yes I AM the editrix.”
“Everybody needs a knockout LBD, and this dress ($625) is giving me major party season vibes. I’m thinking of all the Christmas cocktail parties coming up and have decided I need this in my life… Plus, the high waist gives the illusion of a tiny waist – so important when you’ve got all these tiers going on!”
