Looking for your new local? We reveal the crowd favourites in the CBD, Katong, River Valley, Orchard, Holland Village and more...
If there’s one thing we love about living in Singapore, it’s that there’s no shortage of nomworthy restaurants and cafes. But with being spoiled for choice comes the tough work of selecting the right place when hunger hits. Struck by choice paralysis? We’ve consulted our foodie friends at foodpanda for the crowd favourites in popular Singapore neighbourhoods.
The even better part? When the guys at foodpanda found out people in Singapore spend 24 minutes a day (!!) queueing for food, they decided to introduce Pick-Up – a new feature that allows you to order your grub and pick it up within 15 minutes, adding back valuable time to your day. Of course, for all of us who are stuck at work or choose to stay in and keep binge-watching, you can still opt to get the food you love delivered to your doorstep.
Central Business District
Living in the concrete jungle definitely has it perks – including close proximity to work and all the places that worker bees love to queue up for. Craving a poke bowl? A Poke Theory features bangin’ food that’s kind to your waistline. Think brown rice poke bowls with avocado miso salmon topped with smoked almonds and furikake. Love burritos? Us too! Guzman Y Gomez stuffs theirs to the brim with a hefty serving of meat, beans and Jack cheddar. No scrimping on authentic Mexican flavours here!
Bukit Timah
Amidst the lush greenery of the Botanic Gardens,Bukit Timah Nature Reserve and amazing mansions that line Nassim Road, Bukit Timah never fails to surprise with its hidden culinary gems. Winding down a hectic work week is always a great idea with Wine Connection’s extensive (and affordable) selection of vino and bar bites. In the mood for a light lunch? Baker & Cook rustles up some hearty sandwiches, pastries and amazing sourdough for your pantry!
Holland Village
Holland Village is often known for the happy hour crowds spilling out of Lorong Mambong. We say explore the cosy enclave of Chip Bee Gardens instead! If you’re in the mood for pizza (that’s us, always), check out Da Paolo Pizza Bar up the road. If Southeast Asian food is more your vibe, check out #wtf (Wine, Tapas, Friends) by IndoChine for some Vietnamese, Laotian and Cambodian inspired bites.
Katong
With its picturesque shophouses and cool, quirky shops, Katong is the perfect mix of old and modern Singapore. But perhaps the real reason we love Katong is its eclectic selection of restaurants. There’s the perennial brunch fave, Rabbit Carrot Gun with its delish eggs and benedict and locally produced ale, and the renowned Zaffron Kitchen, which serves up a mean dum chicken biryani.
River Valley
Tucked in between the residential buildings and awesome shopping malls of River Valley is a thriving bar and restaurant scene right on the Singapore River. Of course, we’re talking about Robertson Quay and Clarke Quay. If you’d rather enjoy a hearty meal over nightclubs, we say indulge in a quesadilla or ten from Super Loco. Can’t decide on anything? Check out COLLIN’S for its dizzying array of Western delights.
Orchard
Apart from all the world-class shopping and gorgeous shophouses on historic Emerald Hill, Orchard is a foodie mecca in the heart of this little red dot. From Michelin-starred cuisine to standard hawker fare, this place has it all. Got some guests in town? TungLok Signatures is our top tip for a taste of chilli crab. Of course, what meal would be complete without some dessert? We say check out Antoinette at Mandarin Gallery for their meticulously crafted cakes that are as delish as they are great to look at – a feast for all the senses!
