We’re going to Light to Night not once, but twice this year. Here’s why...
In case one festival isn’t exciting enough for you, the Light to Night Festival promises two different experiences with one bash! With the theme “Traces and Echoes”, explore this festival twice with the Singapore Art Week Edition (18 – 27 Jan) and the Singapore Bicentennial Edition (28 Jan – 24 Feb). Art Week uses contemporary art to present the stories and ideas inspired by the Civic District, while the Bicentennial takes you on a trip down the memory lane with artworks that reimagine the past.
It’s official: an arts and culture fiesta is set to unfold across National Gallery Singapore, The Arts House, Asian Civilisations Museum, the Esplanade Park, Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall. (You can expect close to 50 different programmes this year!)
Here are some of the unmissable highlights…
Art Skins on Monuments
Probably the most Instagrammed part of the annual fest (and also the biggest facade light show in Singapore), Art Skins on Monuments is back. This year’s edition for Art Week, The Odyssey, follows the journey of an adventurer in search of his identity. #Relatable, we say – we’ve always dreamt about a round-the-world trip in the name of self-exploration!
For the Bicentennial, expect to see the light show depicting ‘7 Stories in 700 Years’, showcasing anecdotes regarding trade along the Singapore River, the history of our performing arts and more local narratives that you won’t find in your average textbook.
The Odyssey, 18 Jan-27 Jan 2019, Sun -Thu 8-10pm, Fri-Sat 8pm-Midnight
National Gallery Singapore, The Arts House, Asian Civilisations Museum, Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall
7 Stories From 700 Years, 28 Jan-24 Feb 2019, Sun -Thu 8-10pm, Fri-Sat 8pm-Midnight
