Installations can be found all around you at this year’s i Light Singapore – along Marina Bay and Singapore River, on and under bridges, and even suspended in mid-air...
Gear up for a special edition of i Light Singapore from 28 Jan – 24 Feb 2019. Apart from commemorating the country’s bicentennial, the festival is also upping the ante on sustainability efforts with eco-friendly initiatives Switch Off, Turn Up Campaign and Straw Free @ i Light Singapore.
What else is on? A beautifully-curated series of installations that takes you from Marina Bay all the way to Fort Canning Park. We know you want the deets on all the must-dos, so here’s what we’re checking out at each location…
Singapore River
If you’re walking along the Singapore River, keep an eye out for the multimedia show Bridges of Time in front of Asian Civilisations Museum –the light and laser show happening nightly on the water is not to be missed! For the first time at i Light Singapore, iconic bridges along the Singapore River will also transform into artworks that light up the night, alongside two artworks – With a View and Constructive Interference, by local artists along the river promenade. Get your cameras ready!
Bridges of Time, Fridays and Saturdays 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm, Sundays – Thursdays: 8pm, 9pm, 10pm
Raffles Terrace at Fort Canning Park
As part of Festival at the Fort @ i Light Singapore, homegrown pianists from local tertiary institutions will be playing on the Keys of Light installation on selected evenings. Beams of light will be projected on a lighthouse with each note that they play, creating a magical display of colours that promises to enthral. How’s that for special? Plus, look out for other light art installations in the area, including Reflecting Holons and Land-pass Bird.
During the day, history buffs can also spend time exploring the heritage-rich grounds of the park and traipsing through Raffles Terrace, a replica of Sir Stamford Raffles’ 1822 residence is a must. Grab some food and drinks for a picnic under the stars.
SG Pianists x Keys of Light, Thursdays – Saturdays. Check here for latest performance timings.
The Incubator @ Esplanade Park
Multimedia entertainment studio Pixels was inspired by the Big Bang theory (the birth of the universe, not the TV show) and Transporta @ i Light Singapore is what manifested. We wish we had this talent of creating art from sparks of inspiration too, but we digress. Journey through the immersive, interactive space at Transporta to gain an understanding of how ‘quarks’, a fundamental particle of matter, form light… Or scratch that, just have fun and tell us how it went!
Transporta, Fridays and Saturdays 7.30pm to 12am, Sundays – Thursdays 7.30pm to 11pm. $4 per entry.
La Brasserie @ The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore
If you thought Ratatouille was the world’s smallest chef, you thought wrong. Le Petit Chef is officially claiming the title with a 3D projection experience that features a tiny virtual chef ‘cooking’ and serving a four-course meal right to your plate.
Le Petit Chef, 6.30pm to 10.30pm daily. Charges apply. Click here for reservations at Le Petit Chef.
The Lawn @ Marina Bay
Head to the Eco Lawn @ i Light Singapore and we bet City Gazing Singapore will be the first thing that catches your eye. Think a geometric map of Singapore, except that it’s suspended in mid-air and made of light.
Venture in for Upcycling Workshops at Terra Village or snag some artisanal goods at the Sustainable Lifestyle Market. Friday and Saturday nights will also see the green lawn transformed into an outdoor pop-up cinema while there’ll also be a mass yoga sesh happening on 15 Feb.

Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza
Alfresco dining with barbequed food and a live DJ churning out sick beats never get old for us. The fact that Camp Kilo – one of our fave grills – is bringing the meat to us is just the cherry on top!
