Take in the lights and learn more about environmentally sustainable practices at the fifth edition of the spectacular i Light Marina Bay
As the cool kids would say it, this is one event that’s truly gonna be ‘lit’. This March, Marina Bay will once again be set aglow with over 20 breathtaking sustainable light art installations for i Light Marina Bay. The exhibition’s fifth edition will run from 2 to 26 March 2017, and aims to spread awareness on maintaining sustainable energy habits in our everyday lives. Brand new this year is the inclusion of three distinct event hubs that will complement the light art installations by both local and international artists. And naturally, you can expect pretty photo opps galore.
The first festival hub, The Fantastical World of eco.me (organised by The Rice Company) will feature highlights such as a marketplace showcasing recycled and upcycled goods, as well as a kinetic energy playground, and an urban farming showcase. This festival hub, located at The Promontory, will take place from 3 to 12 March and will treat festival-goers to immersive theatre performances, live music, workshops and an arts and crafts fair.
The second festival hub at The Float @ Marina Bay will feature Art Zoo, with an inflatable playground set in a whimsical zoological garden that will thrill both the young and old. And of course, you can’t have a festival without loads of great nosh, so head down to Gastrobeats at the Bayfront Event Space for a slew of food stalls as well as more live music gigs.
Yet another highlight of this eco-festival is undoubtedly the Ocean Pavilion. The massive installation, designed by Luke Jerram from the UK, is a collection of dome-shaped structures lit with energy-efficient LED lighting. The construction of the structure is essentially crowd sourced – prior to the festival, 20,000 recycled plastic bottles will be distributed to schools and community institutions that will affix it onto structural sheers beforehand.
If you’re an environmentalist at heart and like yourself a bit of art (or you just like sparkling, gorgeous lights), this spectacular exhibition is one that’s sure to inspire.
