Stylish coffee joints, secret mini cafes, lots of avocado toasts served between all these places… here’s your Hot New Cafes of August.
If you didn’t already know, coffee and cafes are just a few of our favourite things plus we’re constantly on the hunt for new brunch spots in town. It’s August and we’ve got some Hot New Cafes for you, including the opening of the most dapper cafe in Orchard and a secret mini cafe in Club Street.
Benjamin Barker Cafe
Wait, aren’t they the menswear specialists? True, but who says you can’t do more than one thing? Located at Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, this stylish joint is a refreshing sight at the hip youth hangout. The cafe may have replaced B Burgers but you can still get burgers like Mr BB (an angus patty with caramelised onions and portobello mushrooms) or a Surf & Turf Burger. Other grub to grab here are pub standards like fish and chips and Southern fried chicken.
Benjamin Barker Cafe, Cathay Cineleisure Orchard, 8 Grange Road, #01-01, Singapore 239695
Maxi Coffee Bar
Blink and you might miss it! This mini cafe on Club Street is the perfect stop for the morning no-nonsense CBD crowd but that doesn’t mean that it has to look boring, does it? Bright blue walls with a tropical feel, get your coffee and croissant fix here or stay a while for avo toast and brownies. Word has it that an omakase menu is in the works!
Maxi Coffee Bar, #01-02, Emerald Garden, 31 Club Street, Singapore 069468
Bring on the carbs! Pronounced as ‘loaf’, this cosy cafe with an open kitchen concept makes all their bread, cakes and pastries in-house. There’s a huge selection of sweet stuff like the Cawa-Banga Mango Roll and house special Lowe’f Toast but it’s the hearty savoury options like the Good Morning Burger (creamy scrambled free-range eggs, melted cheddar cheese, pickled shallots, coffee mayo in a freshly baked sourdough bun) and citrus salmon sandwich (citrus marinated salmon, avocado, edamame, ikura, crispy salmon skin dusted with kombu butter) that will make us return for more.
Lowe’f Artisanal, 1 Queen Street, Singapore 188534
Five Oars Coffee Roasters
We’re definitely not short of Melbourne-inspired cafes in Singapore but there’s no harm in welcoming another one. Five Oars Coffee Roasters in Tanjong Pagar offers quite a solid selection of mains, on top of standard cafe grub and coffee. Bestsellers include the mushroom risotto, steak frites and crab nicoise. New CBD lunch spot we say!
Five Oars Coffee Roasters, 39 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore 088462
