Want to know how to do Xmas, Honeycombers-style? Check out our festive cheat sheet with ALL the intel you need to survive the season...
All month we’ve been collecting all the intel on how to Christmas in Singapore. From where the fun will be, how to shop for the geeks, which sparkly dress to put on, and right down to getting the right party shoes. Thankfully, we’ve gathered all you need to know about having some festive fun this year in the city, right in this nifty one-stop guide to Xmas, Honeycombers-style…
The countdown is on
With December officially in swing, we can only count down the days to Christmas! Thankfully, we have this list of splurge-worthy advent calendars to help us get through the days…
Show me the food!
Planning a grown-up Christmas dinner party with friends and family? You’ll need all the takeaway help you can get. Whether it’s a small get-together or a full-blown rager we’ve shared how to cheat at Christmas with a takeaway turkey to chendol logcakes.
So you want to glaze your own ham or roast a turkey, the way your family’s always done it? We get you. We’re feeders too, so shared our little black book of the best butchers in Singapore for your Christmas ham or turkey. And if you need to get some emergency vino delivered to go with that feast, we’ve got that covered too.
On the other hand, if you want to avoid wasting time on cleaning up and prepping the house and cooking, just eat out! Restaurants and hotels have magnificently rolled out all the epic Xmas day buffets and special festive menus so just pick one – and dress for the occasion!
Nail the festive look
Serve up some yuletide looks… starting from the face. Skincare, hair prep and makeup – it’s important that you look your best as you turn up for all the Christmas parties and dinners. Then pull it together with an elegant dress (check out our fave cocktail dresses that won’t break the bank) or rent a fab dress if you don’t want to commit and slip on some party shoes to complete the look. Throw your essentials into a sleek, stylish clutch, and then off you go!
Deck the halls
What’s Christmas at home without a Christmas tree? Big or small, there’s a couple of nurseries around Singapore where you can find the perfect Christmas tree to fit your space or budget. Now spruce up your home with seasonal Christmas decor like our wreaths of eucalyptus by Floweret Co (which will smell heavenly) holly, twinkly lights, shiny baubles and all that jazz.
‘Tis the season for presents
Christmas, also known as the shopping season, is a highly dangerous period for your wallets. With Christmas sales going on left, right, and centre, it’s sometimes nice to drop by the Christmas markets around town to check out the wares from independent and local makers. You can be sure your gift will be one of a kind.
While some of you have started shopping pretty early, you’re going to find yourself in a pickle sometimes when it comes to gift-shopping. Don’t fret, we’ve got our Christmas Guide series for the clueless. First up, check out the subscription box by Sonder Social, which we want to give everyone this year – it’s packed with handmade, Fair Trade, ethically sourced items made by social enterprises across Asia. For beauty queens and glam goddesses, we’ve got our Christmas beauty haul all set to please those who are makeup and skincare obsessed. Fashionistas will be pleased with sartorial gift guide selection of stylish threads. Gadget geeks, we haven’t forgotten you – our tech Christmas Gift Guide recommends that you switch up your old phone for the super smart Google Pixel 2 XL.
For something more offbeat and unconventional, check out this artsy round-up of home decor products and souvenirs that would make for great conversation. Got your gift settled? Make sure it’s wrapped up with some pretty wrapping paper.
It’s also the season for giving back
If you want to do something different this year and want to give back to the community, we’ve found volunteering opportunities this Christmas season, right here in Singapore. Or, if you want to pass on extra Christmas presents you’ve received and don’t need, or want to declutter during the break, here’s where you can donate all of your unused and gently used items to someone who could really use it.
And, of course, we all need a kickass Xmas soundtrack
Resistance is futile folks. Embrace the Christmas music and start dancing around the tree with our Ultimate Xmas Playlist on full blast. Put on your ugly Xmas sweater while you’re at it. You know you want to.
