Could there be a better time to cosy the hell out of your bedroom? We don’t think so…
‘Tis the season of thunderbolts and lightning. And it’s the closest thing we have to a winter. We wouldn’t trade our tropical warmth for anything (on most days) but when the temp drops, there’s only one thing we can do. Get a cup of oolong and cosy up! We’ve hacked our way to a good night’s sleep and now we’re cosying up in an ultra-comfortable bedroom. One do-able step at a time…
It’s all about the fluff

“This bed is waaay too comfortable,” said no one ever. If there’s one place where extra fluff is a good thing, it’s in the bedroom. Bend over backwards if you must and find yourself natural bed linen and a comforter that can put marshmallows to shame. Yeah, quilts can double the cosiness but a super soft duvet insert with a natural fabric cover is a one-way ticket to comfy-town. We’ve been eyeing everything at Woot Woot, Maissone and every other place we raved about in our guide to luxurious and organic sheets and things.
Let’s pillow talk
Ah, a king-size piled with pillows is asking for it. Imagine a soundless plop onto a bed of pillows where every single inch of your tired body has a dedicated cushioning. Let that sink in. While pillows and throw pillows look good (and feel great), we also wanna make a case for massive fleece or faux fur cushions. Why? ‘Cos you’re a grown-ass adult and it’s time to trade your Pikachu or Paddington cuddly. Intervention over.
This is not a bright idea
Sorry to break it to you but strong task lights have no place in the bedroom unless you’re planning on assembling Ikea furniture in there every day. What? People have strange hobbies. To up the comfy levels in the bedroom, you’re gonna need some mood lights. <insert music clip from any Marvin Gaye song> Go low and mellow – table lamps by Journey East and low hanging pendants like the ones at Xtra and Lights & Co.

Sure, LED candles do the trick but if your OCD alter-ego needs total control over the lights, invest in a Philips Hue white ambiance kit. It’ll wake you up and put you to sleep in the most natural way. And take a look at Sony Glass Sound Speaker LSPX-S1 that’s a gorgeous chimaera – one half is a Bluetooth speaker and the other is a dimmable LED light you can control via your phone.

Pro tip: Quick fix that doesn’t need much time or money? Do like a loyal Pinterest-er and introduce fairy lights to your bedroom.
Care for some candles?
Confession: We hoard candles. Second confession: We’re suckers for aromatherapy. So this might just be highly biased, but candles, diffusers and room mists can create a peaceful atmosphere. ‘Cos even the fluffiest comforter and shaggiest rug can leave you missing that lil’ extra something.

We’ve sniffed out the best labels for home scents and local candles brands that’ll blow you away. On our bedside table right now is a Gently Gently blend by Mmerci Encore and an old-school oil burner for dropping essential oils. Pressed for time and need a quick fix? Spritz linen and room sprays from To Be Calm and Hush for effect.
Spread it out
Yup, home decor isn’t easy. Do you go minimal or all-out kooky maximal? Is monochrome trendier than colour pop? These and a hundred other Qs might be running a marathon in your head, but here’s one tiny fact you cannot ignore. Doesn’t matter what kind of style, colour or print you’re pouncing on this season, nothing makes a bigger difference in the bedroom (or any room for that matter) than a plush rug. From Lim’s Holland Village and Affordable Style Files to Crate & Barrel and Living DNA, our guide to carpets and rugs has got you covered.
Lose your phone
Not literally because how will you ever survive! But all these efforts into cosying up your bedroom will go in vain if you’re buried in the latest cat/baby videos surfacing on Youtube. It’s hard (we tried and failed multiple times) but the least we can do is drop into the yellow-ish night mode. Superhuman amongst us, leave the phone in the living room for a pre-mobile era comfort.
