This new hawker centre will have affordable food, an electronic payment system, hawker programmes and family activities
Forget the negative controversy, because there’s plenty of things to do in Yishun. A new hawker centre located next to Yishun Park is set to open for business in September, but it’s going to be quite different from any other hawker centre. How?
For starters, Timbre Group (of Timbre and Timbre+ fame), will be the managing agent for the spanking new, high-tech hawker centre. With more than just good food, you can expect family-friendly facilities, an in-built tray return system and even a Games Square with pinball machines and arcade games for the full entertainment experience. And to keep meals affordable, hawker centre-style, each stall will have a basic meal priced at $3. A hawker incubation programme will also be implemented to support the endeavours of budding hawkers.
As you might expect, queues are gonna be arduous at this promising hangout, right? Not to worry – Timbre Group is also building a mobile app to be launched in the next six months; the app will allow patrons to carry out cashless payments and even place orders electronically. The radio frequency identification (RFID) tray return system that is in place at Timbre+ will also be integrated in the hawker centre. How it works is that the patrons pay a $1 deposit for a tagged tray, and when the tray has been returned for washing at a station, you get that dollar back. Bless up, technology.
