For a hawker experience like no other, head to the hip Bedok Marketplace for meatballs, yakitori, and more
It may look (somewhat) like a hawker centre, but The Bedok Marketplace isn’t quite your average eating spot. Here, local favourites like chicken rice, roti prata, and nasi lemak take a backseat, and in its place are modern food concepts, helmed by young culinary talents, with offerings like yakitori, meatballs, and pies. Check out our top picks at this hip new hawker centre.
Huong Que Vietnamese Cuisine (#02-19)
Get your pho fix at this cute little Vietnamese stall. Their beef pho features tender meat slices and smooth rice noodles. The braised pork and rice spring rolls aren’t too shabby either.
The Chop Chop Selections (#02-01)
Carnivores, pick your meat and cuts at the counter and tell the guys how you want it done. There are also other items on offer, including luncheon meat fries, chilli con carne, and chicken tacos.
The Burning Oak (#02-16)
Yakitori takes centre-stage at The Burning Oak. Try quail egg, pork shoulder, chicken thigh and shitake mushroom skewers for the price of $2 (and below) per stick. Craving for the premium stuff? Go for the beef short rib skewers or the slow-cooked pork cheek.
Ballistic Meatballs (#02-02/03)
No prizes for guessing what this stall specialises in. Customise your meatball creation to your liking – have it on its on (covered in sauce!), in a wrap, or in a salad. If you’re not having the signature meatballs (sesame-battered cheesy beef meatballs), you can choose from other flavours, including beef, chicken, vegetarian, and seafood.
Spies & All Things Nice (#02-15)
Here you’ll find tasty golden-crusted pies inspired by Asian flavours. Standard choices include beef rendang, Thai basil chicken, chicken laksa, and babi pongteh – the latter being our top pick.
Sakaya (#02-04/05)
Oenophiles and sake connoisseurs, make a beeline for Sakaya. Most of their vino labels are from Australia, France, and Argentina, and their sake collection is pretty impressive. House pours start from $8 per glass for wine, and $6 per glass for sake.
