An alfresco concert on the rooftop of myVillage, this unique gig will feature the young popstar alongside local musicians
Who needs the large-scale grandiosity of The Esplanade or the monolithic stature of the National Stadium, when you can go for a gig right smack in the heartlands? Have your satay fix at the Chomp Chomp hawker centre or a roti prata feast at R.K. Eating House, and adjourn to myVillage at Serangoon Gardens, which will see the rockin’ return of its concert series that made waves last year: A Rooftop Affair. And gracing its sophomore stint as its headlining act is one of the industry’s more underrated popstars, Greyson Chance – a piano-affluent boy wonder who’s now all grown up, turning fans from innocent cheek-squeezing admirers into hot-blooded groupies. Well played, puberty.
Greyson Chance was barely 12 when he made his claim to fame in 2010, with a Lady Gaga cover that got him viral. A year later – following plugs from high-flying personalities like Ellen DeGeneres – the Oklahoma wunderkind released his debut album that spawned chart-blazing singles like “Unfriend You” and “Waiting Outside The Lines”. Those who’ve religiously followed (or stalked) his progress since then, would know that Chance’s music style has altered significantly, especially since his angelic voice broke. Shifting away from uplifting pop, Chance has been steering towards a more solemn r&b approach, now with deeper, gravelly vocals that put him on par with Drake. Don’t believe us? Listen for yourself!
Watching the baffling evolution of Greyson Chance isn’t the only highlight of A Rooftop Affair; from what we’ve heard, he’s gonna be accompanied by other music acts that have yet to be confirmed. Last year’s debut gig featured Us The Duo, accompanied by sterling local musicians like Gentle Bones and ShiGGa Shay. So if that’s anything to go by, hopefully, we’re in for some homegrown star power as well! Stay tuned for more deets.
