It’s been a while (some 1.5 years) since we boarded a plane to a far-flung place, and now it’s going to be a reality. With the newly launched Vaccinated Travel Lane, we can now travel to Germany. Stunning cities to travel to in Germany
1. Berlin
Berlin is a gritty city but charming nonetheless. To start, trace back the past of Germany’s capital through walking tours where you’ll unearth nuggets of World War II history and the fallen Berlin Wall. But for those curious about the latter, make your way to the East Side Gallery. The longest remaining section of the wall has been converted to an open-air gallery where you can marvel at more than 100 artworks. Currently, the nightlife scene isn’t what it used to be, but fingers crossed it’ll slowly go back to its former glory.
Don’t miss: Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust Memorial and Berlin Victory Column.
2. Munich
Experience the boozy Oktoberfest where it all began: in the heart of this Bavarian city. Put on your lederhosen and hit up Hofbräuhaus! Built in 1915, it’s one of the oldest beer halls and has paved the way for other similar establishments in the city. Also, check out the sprawling English Garden in autumn when the park is awash in lush amber foliage. If time permits and you’re looking for something truly magical, go on a two-hour road trip to the breathtaking Neuschwanstein Castle. Fun fact: the castle actually served as an inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle.

3. Frankfurt
Frankfurt might be the financial hub of Germany but the city isn’t all work and no play. Enter Museum Embankment. A bastion of arts and culture, the Main River’s southern bank is lined with nine museums. From film and architecture to sculptures and paintings, the area is a must-visit for culture vultures.
Don’t miss: Iron Footbridge and Roemerberg.
4. Hamburg
Situated in the northern part of Germany, Hamburg is a port city famous for its harbour area. Explore the port of Hamburg via a boat and take in the sights of Speicherstadt. Also known as a warehouse city, it’s where canals meet neo-Gothic architecture. Apart from being the largest warehouse district in the world, it also boasts Unesco World Heritage Site status. Another thing you might notice as you gallivant around the city? Bridges! Lots of them. It’s been said there are almost 2,500 bridges in Hamburg, including the 3.9km-long Köhlbrandbrück.

5. Cologne
Cologne is an old cathedral city with roots tracing back to the first century AD. Be enthralled by Cologne Cathedral, which is hands down the city’s most majestic monument. A marvel of Gothic architecture, its construction began in 1248 and was only completed in the 1880s. Another must-do: check out the Cologne Chocolate Museum. Here’s where you’ll learn the history and process of chocolate-making and, of course, try freshly-made chocolates.
Don’t miss: Museum Ludwig, Hohenzollern Bridge and Brühl Castle.
