A little bit can go a long way – get a load of these five easy and entirely do-able feng shui tips to ring in Chinese New Year 2019 on an auspicious note.
Ardent believers or not, we could all use to a little nudge in the right (see: lucky) direction. What better time to invoke positivity than Chinese New Year. As you shop for the perfect cheongsams and block your calendar for CNY parties, don’t forget to bring home some good vibes with these handy, easy-to-do feng shui tips.
#1 Pick a colour. But not any colour
According to feng shui, the right colours can do wonders to your home by attracting luck, wealth, good health, and even romance. It’s a year of the Pig… the Earth Pig to be super specific. Good thing it follows the year of the Earth Dog so we aren’t deviating too much from 2018’s colour schemes. Pigs are calm, comforting and sweet. So it makes perfect sense that the auspicious colours for this year include warm, earthy shades of red, yellow, orange, pink as well as white, grey, blue and brown. In case you’re wondering, black is a no-no.
#2 KonMari your home
Feng shui said it first… an aeon before Marie Kondo told us to clear out crap out and declutter like we mean it. If it doesn’t ‘spark joy’, donate it to these charities. Apart from getting bonus karma points, you’re also creating peace at home and allowing energies to flow smoothly.
#3 All natural all the time

Even feng shui newbies will know this, nature plays a major role in bringing life and vibrant qi or ch’i into your home. You can’t go wrong with a lovely money plant, but do stay away from cactus. Feng shui experts suggest steering clear of this thorny plant, even if it’s trending hard on Pinterest. Oh, and wooden furniture or decoratives, pottery, natural fabrics, stones, crystals all play well with the Earth Pig. Check out our story from that time we went nuts for gemstone accessories and skincare, infused sprays and face massagers for a little crystal inspo.
#4 It’s a numbers game
For 2019, feng shui masters say numbers 4, 6 and 8 are straight up lucky. So what do you with these even numbers? Use them while decorating – group candles, crystals, throw pillows, artworks, bits and bobs in fours, sixes and eights.
#5 It’s gotta be lit

This isn’t specific to the year of the pig, but a feng shui must-do every year. Get rid of dark and dingy corners. Light is one of the most important elements to balance yin and yang. No windows? Invest in recessed light fixtures, floor or table lamps and candles for a bright, more cheerful home.
