It’s all about happiness, Disney… and drag this weekend! Here’s how to spend the first weekend of the year in Singapore.
Once you’ve gotten over the initial shock that 2018 is gone, it’s time to kick off the new year on a high note! We’re already excited for 2019 with the lineup of epic concerts and theatrics coming our way. But first, take a peek into our January agenda – starting with the best events for the first weekend of the year…
Ring in the new year with joy
5 – 6 Jan
The first ever Happiness Festival is happening and we’re intrigued, to say the least. This festival combines activities and workshops to welcome 2019 with laughter and mindfulness. Join in to be a part of the happiness movement – tbh, we can’t think of a better way to start the year!
Happiness Festival, 6 Eu Tong Sen Street, 04-88, Singapore 059817
We’ve waxed lyrical about these parties before and we’ll do it again. The first Gimme Shelter blowout of the year is happening this Saturday and you’d be incredibly sorry to miss it. Last we heard, Disko Kosmik’s spinning his cosmic tunes and The Gonzo’s digging up some Brazilian house records he didn’t know he had.
Gimme Shelter, Intermission Bar – at The Projector, 6001 Beach Road, Singapore Singapore 199589
Glam it up for an epic drag party
Legendary mainstays (Jada and Helda) and next gen queens (Dahlia Rose and Annastasia) are set to give RuPaul a run for her money at this bash. It’s gonna be one hot night with resident DJ Victor Shaqur’s spinning his edm beats and an absolutely unmissable lip sync battle by our gorgeous divas. We’re marking our cals for this one, enough said.
Herstory the Glamzon Party, Canvas Club, 20 Upper Circular Road, The Riverwalk, #B1-01/06, Singapore 058416
The Outer Limits (A Fundraising Music Festival)
Breaking into the overseas music industry is no small feat and The Music Society is helping our local acts do just that. Show your support at The Outer Limits, where ticket sales for will go towards scoring overseas gigs for our homegrown stars to showcase their talent. Expect to hear Sezairi’s pop and R&B tunes, Caracal’s post hardcore jams, Linying’s electronic beats and more at this music fest.

Rave with the region’s best spinmasters
If you’re tuned in to the regional party scene, you’ll know DJ Gemstarr and DJ Dona Amelia for their electrifying sets that never fail to get the crowd pumped. Catch them helming the decks at Altimate this Saturday for a night of revelry against the backdrop of the city’s skyline.
Altimate Saturday, Level 61, 1 Raffles Place, 048616
Zander x Jekyll & Hyde
MasterChef Singapore’s first winner, Zander Ng will be whipping up a four-course dinner this weekend. If his creations on the show (and this epic compost cookie recipe that he shared with us) are anything to go by, we’d be expecting one helluva meal. Plus, each course will be paired with bespoke cocktails by Michael Foong from one of our fave watering holes, Jekyll & Hyde.
Zander x Jekyll & Hyde, 49 Tras St, Singapore 078988
An Afternoon with The Great Singapore Poo Sale

Squeal over flowers and Tsum Tsum
Till 6 Jan
We don’t care what anyone says, you’re never too old for Disney. And if you haven’t already been to Gardens by the Bay’s Tsum Tsum floral display, this weekend is your last chance – don’t say we didn’t warn you! Expect to spot Dumbo amongst the greenery and soak in the last of the Christmas lights if you’re still feelin’ festive.
