ABOUT AROOP ROY
Aroop Roy is a producer, musician and label head, who joins the dots between electronic music and borderless organic sounds. From house, garage and techno to jazz, disco and global rhythms, he has enjoyed universal acclaim as a producer and DJ. Aroop’s eclectic productions have become a mainstay for DJs across scenes and generations, with Gilles Peterson calling him ‘a brilliant producer, who never fails’. In recent years, he has been in high demand as a remixer, working for both underground and major labels.
Like his productions, his sets are full of personality and style and have earned him a reputation as a uniquely gifted DJ. In 2023, Aroop has been causing wild scenes with his sets at venues and festivals including Fabric, Printworks, Defected Croatia, Hi Ibiza, Lost Village and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide and We Out Here festivals. Legendary UK and Ninja Tune artist Mr Scruff calls Aroop an ‘incredible DJ’ and ‘ridiculously skilled selector’ and has invited him to numerous B2B sessions. An eclectic digger and tastemaker, he has recorded guest mixes for the likes of Gilles Peterson, Freerange Records, CO-OP, Jazz FM and BBC 6 Music’s Craig Charles Funk & Soul show and is a resident for Defected Broadcasting House. Aroop’s label Vive La Musique has focussed on quality over quantity, with reissues and reworks of rare eclectic sounds from around the world from Caribbean zouk and Congolese Rumba to French jazz-fusion and South African soul. All releases have been celebrated by major tastemakers across the scene with the latest offering “In the Fast Lane” receiving rave reviews for uncovering the historical connections between french virtuoso Jean-Luc Ponty and the Detroit techno movement.
