Exhibition Synopsis
To Have and To Hold invites us to contemplate the many ways we hold — memories, emotions, connections, and moments. Holding goes beyond the physical act; it is about preserving, embracing, nurturing, and sometimes, releasing. Through these artworks, the idea of holding becomes a quiet meditation on care, transformation, and the spaces we create for ourselves and each other.
Each piece offers a unique interpretation of what it means to carry and be carried, to support and be supported. Some works evoke the comfort of safe spaces, the tender presence of people who anchor us, or the reinvention of materials and memories that once seemed lost. We see fleeting droplets captured, old fragments reimagined, and delicate gestures stitched together — gentle reminders of resilience, renewal, and the beauty of giving new life to what was once familiar.
There is an exploration here of emotional landscapes too: spaces where grief, healing, and reflection coexist. These artworks acknowledge the weight we bear and the quiet solace of being held — sometimes by others, sometimes by art itself. They invite us to ask: What do we cling to, and what do we surrender? What spaces do we protect, and who or what protects us?
To Have and To Hold encourages curiosity, reflection, and a deeper awareness of the delicate balance between holding on and letting go. In these intimate and thoughtful works, we are reminded that to hold is to care, to witness, and to honour the unseen threads that connect us all.
