“Let’s talk about… the 100-year-old artist who still paints with a two-kilogram paintbrush” ~ Dr Jimmy Koh, Managing Director of Antara Koh
Long after most people would have retired and faded into the background of the show called life, Lim Tze Peng’s journey as artist and patriotic art icon was only just beginning. At 95 in 2016, Lim Tze Peng became the oldest Singaporean (and oldest living artist) to be awarded the Meritorious Service Medal on Singapore’s National Day. Known for his ‘westernised calligraphy’ styled paintings of iconic scenes of Old Singapore, Lim Tze Peng was never one who let established norms limit his artistic innovations. The book traces the lean beginnings of the early years, relives the times of controversy over the artist’s innovations in Chinese calligraphy, and celebrates his breakthroughs.
