Singapore is great for many things: glorious food, brilliant shopping, vibrant cultures, and – believe it or not – glistening golf courses. You may or may not know this, but our awesome city has more golf courses (per square-kilometre) than any other country in the world. So it’s not much of a surprise that the world’s top golfers are heading our way for a swing or two at the upcoming SMBC Singapore Open.
Set to take place from 28 to 31 January 2016 at Sentosa Golf Club’s beautiful 18-hole Serapong Course after a three-year absence, the SMBC Singapore Open will see 22-year-old golf phenom Jordan Spieth, major champion Darren Clarke, putt-putt all-star Y.E. Yang, and World No.28 and European Tour’s ‘Rookie of the Year’, Ben An, plus many more battle for a prize money of US$1 million.
This is one game that’ll keep you on your toes, even if you’re not a die-hard golf fan. Headliner Spieth, touted to be the next Tiger Woods and recently named PGA Player of the Year, has claimed the Masters Tournament, US Open, as well as the 2015 FedEx Cup last year. Watch him break a sweat as he goes against the finest in the field, such as Northern Ireland’s Clarke, who boasts a sterling career and 22 wins worldwide including The Open in 2011, as well as South Korea’s Yang, the first Asian to win a Major at the 2009 US PGA Championship.
Besides the tension on the green, there’s plenty to appreciate at the SMBC Singapore Open, like the spectacular views of Sentosa, the surrounding South China Sea, the iconic Singapore harbour, and the city skyline at the Serapong Course, plus the buttoned-up dapperness on the green. Even better, entrance to the event is free on opening day (28 January). Now, who can we carpool with to the event?
Tickets are priced at $20 for the second round on Friday, 29 January 2016, and $30 each day on Saturday and Sunday. Season tickets for all four days are priced at $50. Children under the age of five enters free, while tickets for those aged between five and 12 are priced at $5. Group discounts and hospitality packages are also available through event promoter Lagardère Sports. Get your tickets via APACTix.
