The Peranakan Museum will be presenting its first historical exhibition showcasing one of the world’s largest collection of Peranakan photography. Through more than 200 photographs and portraits, the exhibition traces the history and evolution of photography in the region, with a focus on how the Peranakan community captured and projected themselves to the world through the multi-faceted medium of photographs. Besides catching a glimpse of the personal and social lives of the Peranakans, Amek Gambar: Peranakans and Photography will bring visitors back in time to when photography was first invented and arrived in Singapore.
