But we all know the drill: put on your finest threads and luck will come your way this festive season. Turn up the huat with luxury fashion brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Moschino, as well as local designer Vaughn Tan rolling out exclusive CNY collections with auspicious colours and cameo appearances by dogs…
Dolce & Gabbana
To usher in the year of the dog, Italian luxury fashion giant Dolce & Gabbana has released a special “Doggy” collection for men and kids (picture it now: dad and junior twinning on CNY!). Think comfy wardrobe essentials such as shirts, hoodies, jackets and trousers featuring dog prints and embellishments. Not overtly CNY, so it’s there’s more cost-per-wear factor, if you’re game enough to work that print.

Move aside jungle predators, Gucci has a new animal in town and it’s downright adorable! Ditching its signature snakes and tigers, the eclectic Italian luxury label releases a pup-inspired limited collection to celebrate with CNY. The two adorable pooches featured on its range of satin bomber jackets, denim skirts, sweatshirts, polos, accessories and shoes are Bosco and Orso — the Boston terriers of creative director Alessandro Michele.

Would you expect anything less than the iconic brand’s playful panache this CNY? Creative director Jeremy Scott joins in the canine fun by creating fashion pieces inspired by Pudgy, Betty Boop’s beloved pup. The auspicious-red Moschino collection includes ready-to-wear for men and women, as well as accessories such as backpacks, keychains, scarves and phone cases.

Another designer collection championing the year of the dog is Longchamp. The French luxury label has teamed up with China’s fashion blogger, Tao Liang (aka Mr Bags), for a spin on the iconic foldable tote bags. The collab features bags made from luxurious lamb leather for a slightly more structured feel and paw prints to signify the year of the dog. The medium tote is available in black with prints in white outline, as well as pink and sky blue with white fur. Check out the clutches too…
