These card games bring a little extra fun to the table.
During the circuit breaker, chances are, you’re spending more time with your family. And hey, it can go both ways. Between WFH and having all your meals together, things can get a little overwhelming. What’s our suggestion? Blow off some steam with a good old card game. We ain’t talking about basic tabletop games though. More like exploding kitties, magical unicorns and living your best Singaporean life. Just scroll down to see the real deal…
Chope! The Card Game

Nope, this has nothing do with the restaurant reservation platform. In fact, in Singlish lingo, ‘chope’ means to reserve a seat in a hawker centre by using small items like tissue packets. With that in mind, this card game is all about collecting table and food cards, so grab your family members for a little foodie fun. We love that there are adorable images of local delicacies like laksa and nasi lemak, too.
Available at Toytag.
Limpeh Says
In the vein of Cards Against Humanity, this game gets a local twist with quotes that are filled with Singaporean antics. Expect questions like “When I was serving NS, all I could think about was ____.” And quirky responses such as “Chilli crab without chilli” or “Underage ah lians”. See how the game can be filled with zany answers?
Available on Shopee.
Bye Bye Virus
The launch of this game couldn’t be more timely. Founded by two Singaporeans, it’s about surviving a virus pandemic – which we’re all too familiar with. You’ll be thrown into situations like dealing with new regulations and empty supermarket shelves. Sounds fun, innit? (Or perhaps a little too close to home.) Win the game by collecting five ‘protection cards’ in cute illustrations depicting hand sanitisers and masks. And be sure to steer clear of the cops who are keeping an eye on quarantine rule breakers. FYI: The game is on Kickstarter so show some love and pledge $30 to get a set delivered right to you.

Say What? Singapore’s Shiok Food Card Game

Foodies, it’s time to flex your knowledge on Singapore’s local food scene. The rules are pretty straightforward. Guess the right dishes as the other player is feeding you with descriptions, and the one who gets the most answers right wins the game! Psst: We’re also fawning over the beautiful food illustrations.

Monopoly Deal
Forget about the Monopoly board game as this version’s playtime is only 15 minutes or so. Gather three sets of properties to win the game but keep a lookout for cards like the ‘sly deal’ and ‘forced deal’ as they allow players to steal property.
Available at Toys ‘R’ Us.
What Do You Meme?
We’re all fully aware of the power of memes. If you’re a meme connoisseur, this game will be right up your alley. Pick the best caption for one of the memes presented from the deck and the judge will decide who gets to win the round. So put on your thinking cap and go crazy with the responses.

Unstable Unicorns
Are you ready to burn bridges with your family members? Joking, of course. This fun strategic card game allows you to build an army of unicorns with different abilities. There are over 20 kinds, including the lovable baby unicorn, creepy zombie unicorn and magical unicorn. How do you win? Collect seven unicorn cards while trying to protect your stable from attacks by other players.

The Singaporean Dream
What is the Singaporen dream? Only one way to find out. Start by choosing a typical Singaporean persona such as the high-flyer, auntie or social media influencer, then proceed to collect as many ‘dreams’ (like ‘unlimited annual leave’ or ‘have a gifted child’) to win. Just be careful that the other players don’t stump your dreams with action cards like ‘copycat’ or ‘stand up for Singapore’.

Exploding Kittens

First off, we can’t resist the tongue-in-cheek name; and secondly, who doesn’t like a game about cuddly little kitties? Not only that, but the deck is also made out of creatures straight from a fantasy book: Bear-O-Dactyl (a hybrid of bear and pterodactyl), pig-a-corn (a horned hog) and jackanope (an uncanny resemblance of an overweight antelope). Trust us, this game is all sorts of wacky fun.

Sushi Go!
Ever seen a sushi chef in action? It’s almost like magic – with a couple of chopping and swishing actions of the knife, you get an artfully plated sashimi. Don’t worry, no sharp objects are involved in this game. Grab your fambam and pick the best cards to create the perfect sushi combination. Take the crown by pairing yours with ideal ingredients – an oishii win!
