New year, new space – these tips from BoConcept’s interior stylist, Rou Ying, will help you nail your home goals
It’s 2018, the Chinese New Year holidays are coming, and you’re looking for a fresh new take on your space. BoConcept’s interior stylist, Rou Ying shares a few insider tips on on how to create an on-trend look that makes you feel at home.
The good news? Revamping could be as easy as investing in a statement accessory, or introducing a new colour to add to the furniture you already have!
Bring in the pigments…
Tip number one: don’t be afraid to flirt with cosy and warm palettes. These colours are more likely to make your home feel more welcoming. Rou Ying suggests going with dusty rose, for a splash of Chinese prosperity that’s easy on the eyes. Hint: this colour also goes well with cool neutrals.
As for the prints…
We’re all for the maximalist trend! From Hawaiian prints to retro-futurist Gucci campaigns, the fashion world has embraced patterns, and now it’s time to invite them home. Of course, too many motifs can be OTT, so stay light-handed. A simple touch of flowers can be refreshing: “They add character to an otherwise plain-looking space,” says Rou Ying.
Embrace the curves…
Even from the early days of famous modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer, rounded forms and functions have been a staple. Ditch the sharp angles or boundaries. Having organic, curvilinear accents will make your spaces flow better from one to another, and they also symbolise happiness and satisfaction – which of course, are important ingredients for a home sweet home.
And brass it up!
In the year of the earth dog, metals are in – but make sure they’re not too cold and polished. Add a twinkle to your living space with brass accents. “The right amount of brass is an elegant way to celebrate festive seasons,” says Rou Ying, “it adds an extra layer of luxury.”
The Chinese and Danish share a love for togetherness, so if you’re looking to make your rooms more warm and inviting, BoConcept – with its Scandinavian staple and statement pieces – is the place to go.
