Where to have a picnic in Singapore that is not too crowded or conventional? We’ve lined up some off-the-beaten-track picnic spots, so pack your basket, order your wine and rally the troops.
Don’t let the weather put you off; too hot, too wet, bah! Don’t be a picnic humbug! Singapore is home to numerous pretty picnic spots, so whip out that super cute blanket, fill your basket with the finest nibbles, and round up your friends for a spot of al-fresco dining. While no picnic is complete without a bottle of vino (or two), there’s nothing worse than reaching your destination and discovering you ain’t the only one struggling with the humidity. Warm wine: Disaster! Lucky for us, nifty new app, Bottles XO, is on hand to solve our wine struggles. Wherever you are in Singapore, these chaps will get a bottle of the finest (and reasonably priced) delivered straight to your door (or picnic blanket, in this case) within the hour, chilled and ready to drink. They even bring plastic glasses – perfect for a picnic.
So with your wine woes settled, where to next? Though there are loads of beautiful parks in Singapore to choose from, we’re always hyped to try somewhere new. So here’s our round-up of off-the-beaten-track spots to park your picnic blanket, whatever the occasion.
For a picnic with pals: The Green Corridor
Catch it quick before it’s closed for redevelopment! What better way to wave farewell to the old railway track than to dine on its grassy banks and raise a toast with a glass of vino. There are several spots where the track widens to create a perfect picnic pocket. It’s a dog-friendly spot so your four-legged pal can also join the picnic party!
For the adventurous: Lower Seletar Reservoir
The lush greenery of Lower Seletar Reservoir provides an idyllic picnic backdrop; you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding upon the perfect spot to unfurl your blanket. Work up an appetite by taking a power walk along one of the nature trails, or get active on the water with a spot of kayaking.
For the romantics: Bukit Batok Town Park
Also know as Little Guilin, the quiet and beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding the lake – that resemble the flora-focused region in China – make this a romantic picnic spot. We love the tranquil vibes and watery setting; it’s perfect date night material.
For the Instagrammers: Lalang Field Punggol
You ain’t an Instagram pro if you ain’t got a snap at Lalang Field, just saying. Aim for an early evening picnic to catch the sun setting (hello beautifully lit pic!) and let the pretty surroundings help you while away the stresses of the day. Wine will also help.
For the fam: Dairy Farm Quarry
At the Southwestern tip of the 63-hectare Dairy Farm Nature Park is the Dairy Farm Quarry. Now transformed into a wetland habitat, it’s a beautiful spot for a family picnic, and little ones will love trying to spot the numerous dragonflies from the viewing platforms. Surrounded by nature, the hustly-bustly city will feel miles away, especially after a sauv blanc.
