A healthy lifestyle is more than just fad diets and a gym membership – these are some great ways you can kick-start your holistic journey
Stressed out, out-of-shape, and feeling unmotivated? We hear you, but it’s still not too late to turn that around! For the uninitiated, insurance provider AXA has launched a weekly Health Challenge to inspire those who find themselves in a wellness slump. From now ‘til 17 December, take simple steps towards a healthier lifestyle, and you could stand a chance to win a FitBit Flex 2 fitness tracker and other exciting prizes each week.
It doesn’t matter if your idea of staying active involves hitting the malls or the treadmill – every effort counts. Whether you’re training for a marathon, or calming your chi at a meditation session, here’s a roundup of activities to consider.
If you want… to run a marathon
Cardio training may be a no-brainer for every aspiring Spartan, but strength training is essential for conditioning too. Aside from chalking up running miles, how about some one-on-one time with a punching bag (read our review here), or in a barre studio? If you haven’t got the time for a dedicated workout session, bootcamps, which feature HIIT-style workouts, are a quick and effective way of leveling up your stamina.
If you want… to de-stress
Sometimes, a quick breather from work is all you need. Sneak in a quick snooze at Golden Village (yes, the cinema giant is offering Gold Class lunchtime naps) or unwind at a new-age meditation class. And if that’s not zen enough for you, Palm Ave Float Club features isolating float pods designed to ease you into a deep state of relaxation – it’s even said to help improve the quality of your sleep. We’ll say ohm to that!
If you want… a fun workout
Team sports are great for expunging the stress of the week, so get into the competitive spirit with exhilarating group activities such as dragon boating. Want something a little less intense? Bouldering helps build your core and the task of planning your route challenges your problem-solving skills. Other fun ways to get into the groove include taking a swing at an indoor baseball batting cage, or a trampolining session. More on that here.
If you want… a dose of nature
Nothing beats working out in great outdoors – and we can attest to that! The Honeycombers team has been busy mapping out the best nature trails and cycling routes in Singapore with our Blaze the Trail series. Of course, you can’t miss out on the sheer variety of watersports available here. From kayaking to paddle boarding, it’s time to dip your toes in the aquatic arena.
Don’t miss AXA’s Get Healthy Day event, organised in collaboration with Mobike to celebrate the finale of their Health Challenge campaign. Happening on 9 Dec (8am-12pm), hop on Mobike and breeze through a 6km cycling trail that loops from OCBC Square at Singapore SportsHub to Marina East via Tanjong Rhu bridge – you’ll also be part of a record-breaking moment which sees the largest parade of bike-sharing bicycles taking to the streets. Even better, you’ll receive a goodie bag comprising $20 CapitaVouchers, $10 Mobike credits and healthy snacks. To participate, sign up here today! (registration is limited to a first-come-first-served basis)
