Can't get enough of Yayoi Kusama in Singapore? Head to The Fullerton Hotel's The Courtyard for pastries, cakes and desserts inspired by the Japanese artist
Whether you’re a fan of art in Singapore or not, it’s hard not to be captivated by the show-stopping works of Japanese artist, Yayoi Kusama. Dubbed the ‘grand dame of the avant-garde’, the Japanese artist and writer is renowned for her unparalleled creativity and hypnotic artworks which often boast her trademark polka dots. Come 9 June, she’ll hold her first major exhibit in Southeast Asia at National Gallery Singapore. Titled “Life is the Heart of a Rainbow”, it’ll showcase her artworks, spanning several decades, in various forms. We guarantee you’ll remain utterly transfixed after your visit, so if you’d like to celebrate the artist in more ways than one, boy have we got a treat for you.
In conjunction with her exhibition, The Fullerton Hotel is offering a Yayoi Kusama-inspired afternoon tea set at its regal, sun-lit dining space, The Courtyard. Debuting on the opening day of the exhibit, the set will include five specially created delights which pay tribute to her corresponding artworks. These include a dot-speckled lychee mousse cube to resemble the constellation in “Gleaming Lights of the Souls”, and a dark chocolate mousse topped with a blue chocolate disc and a thin strip of couverture to mirror Kusama’s “I Want to Live Forever” from the “My Eternal Soul” series. Also in the lineup is a strawberry shortcake, topped with whipping cream and sandwiched between cocoa butter printed with ridges, with the symbol of “Life is the Heart of a Rainbow”.
Priced at $43++ per person, the set will also feature the standard fare of its afternoon tea selection: finger sandwiches, an assortment of cakes, bite-sized pastries, assorted cakes and freshly baked scones served with clotted cream and berry preserves. Oh, and did we mention that the selection is replenishable and comes with free-flow TWG tea or coffee. Come on Fridays, Saturdays and Saturdays for an elevated experience – that’s when a live harpist will be on site to complement your tea sesh.
The Yayoi Kusama-inspired Afternoon Tea is available from 9 June to 10 July 2017, 3 pm to 6pm on Monday to Friday, and 2 pm to 4 pm (1st seating), and 4.30pm and 6pm (2nd seating) on Saturday and Sunday. To reserve, call 6877 8911 / 8912 or visit Fullerton Hotels online.
