Hello Christmas month! While we fill up our bellies with all the feasts and buffets, remember that December is more than just all things yuletide. While the mood is still all celebratory in Singapore, check out farmers’ markets and sustainable fairs, some choice gigs in town, and of course, lots of food happenings around town this December!
The carnival’s in town

Singapore’s “biggest carnival”, The Prudential Marina Bay Carnival will occupy an area the size of three-and-a-half football fields. Expect rides galore (over 40 rides and games brought in from various European countries), indulgent festival grub, music and entertainment, and lots of fun. Bring the whole fambam!

Party like it’s NYE… with us!
We’re saying farewell to 2017 surrounded by a few of our favourite things: free-flow wine and sparkling, live music all night, and fantastic food. We’re doing it with our friends Maggie Joan’s (seriously one of Singapore’s best restaurants) and epic online wine retailer Vinomofo, and just because we can, we’re taking over a laneway for a NYE street party set to be one of Singapore’s hot end-of-year tickets. The flashiest, most bangin’ flea market is here
Brought to you by the same folks behind the wildly popular flea market Artbox Singapore, Flashbang will be Singapore’s first and largest creative retail playground in Orchard Road this December. Promising to the biggest multi-sensory event of the year, it will feature feature a well-curated F&B and retail market, interactive exhibitions, light art installations, music performances, creative workshops, games and more! Flashbang will also have two different sets of programmes; a family-friendly one for day-walkers, and party vibes for the night-dwellers.

Get inspired at the Market
This one-day shopping event at the National Design Centre will feature creatives and makers who will inspire with the idea of ikigai – the Japanese concept of finding purpose in life through the balance of passion, mission, vocation and profession. There’ll be workshops and sharing sessions led by social enterprises and creative entrepreneurs, including an Urban Farming for Happiness workshop by Super Farmers, design books and magazines from Basheer Graphic Books, handmade jewellery by Dusk Jewelry and WoonHung, ceramic wares by In Between Hues, upcycled and handmade accessories by Purnama, scarves by Le Tierra, notebooks by Salt & Sweeter and more.

Rock out like it’s the 60s again!
In case you didn’t already know, Singapore always had a vibrant music scene, way back since the 60s. In this extravagant one-night show, experience the local iconic rock n roll bands from the 1960s. Some of these home-grown bands include Jerry & the Neufaces, The Dukes, The Silver Strings, The Easybeats, The Bee Jays and The Revival Band who are pioneer singers that have contributed to the moulding of our local music scene. Dance like the old days at Poptart
It has been 12 years of indie dance party, EATMEPOPTART. Stemmed from a basic ethos of ‘we love to share the music we like and we hope you’d like it too’, the party has grown from a tiny night with a trio of over-enthusiastic music selectors playing for our friends into a noisy brand with club shows, bar nights, festival headline spots and our own outdoor event. We always look out for the Park Bench Deli pop-ups and collabs and it looks like we’ve reached the very last one for the year. They’re going big! Featuring a Sri-Lankan takeover by Chef Rishi Naleendra of Cheek By Jowl (Michelin-starred Contemporary Australian Restaurant), this pop-up is also a fundraising event in support of the Happy People Helping People Foundation for The Elderly Cardboard Collectors. All in for Asia’s biggest beach dance party ZoukOut
When it comes to gargantuan music festivals in Singapore, ZoukOut takes the cake every year. The flagship event of the iconic Singapore club, Zouk, this beach festival held every December attracts legions of ravers from all over the region to prance and party through a two-day marathon of dance music. ZoukOut’s final line-up this year includes French EDM superstar DJ Snake, Asian hip-hop crew 88rising, Belgian techno proponent Amelie Lens and Dutchman MaRLo. They join the acts previously announced, such as fellow Dutchman R3hab, Australian DJ-producer Flume and masked DJ Marshmello.

Stayin’ Alive with the Bee Gees
The music of the Bee Gees is Stayin’ Alive! Bee Gees Gold, the ultimate Bee Gees tribute band is heading straight from Las Vegas to Singapore this month to recreate the unique look and sound of the 60s and 70s. Be impressed by the Colours of Impressionism

It ain’t over till the dancehall queen sings
Ophlin Russell, known as Sister Nancy, the first female vocalist of Dancehall music and the dominating female voice for over two decades will be coming to Singapore for the first time to perform as part of Singapura Dub Club at Hard Rock Cafe. Fantasy cult favourite novel Dune by Frank Herbert comes alive through virtual reality, paintings, prints and projection mapping at this dedicated exhibition. Grow a superfood in your backyard
Probably the only plant that contains all the nutrients that our body need. Protein, amino acids, carbohydrate, fats, vitamins, chlorophyll, fibre and more. Moringa (also known as the drumstick tree) is considered to have the highest protein ratio of any plant so far identified and is not genetically modified and altered by humans. Come learn more about this new “superfood”, Moringa, from farmer Martin who grows his own Moringa organically in Malaysia and make his own Moringa products without any preservative, artificial colouring and additive. There will be a demonstration on how to grow Moringa from cuttings, specially grown by Martin as well as Moringa tea samples for participants to try.
