Fashion has just lost one of its biggest stars, with the passing yesterday of legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta at the age of 82.
Although not confirmed, it has been said that he died due to complications surrounding cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2006. Widely regarded as the doyen of American fashion, the Dominican-born couturier was best known for his drop-dead gorgeous gowns favoured by royalty, First Ladies, and Hollywood starlets.
Mr. de la Renta first apprenticed under Cristobal Balenciaga before moving to the house of Lanvin in Paris. He launched his eponymous label in 1965 and quickly became the go-to designer to some of the world’s biggest style icons including Jacqueline Kennedy, Princess Diana, Diana Vreeland, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
