We were invited to the 10th anniversary celebration of Singapore’s biggest outdoor wine festival, and it was just as awesome as it sounds.
Whether you fancy yourself a wine connoisseur or have no idea what you’re doing when you’re swirling your go-to glass of Malbec, Wine Fiesta is a wine-tasting experience like no other. The biggest outdoor wine festival in Singapore took over the Lion City’s Clifford Square, transforming the outdoor park into a vino lovers paradise over the course of a weekend in October. The riverfront venue had a great view of Marina Bay Sands and excellent music thanks to Singapore’s famed Kilo Lounge. Even though the mega-tent structure was apparently smaller this year than previous years, and the temperature reaching 36 degrees (according to our Uber driver) we still had an amazing time scoring a fine selection of the best wines and grub all while schmoozing with passionate wine producers.
We had over 300 incredible wines from around the globe to sample
There were more than 300 wines to sample from across the globe, so with three days of fiesta-ing to do, we simply had to sample them all! Armed with a fresh tasting glass and wine booklet, we wandered from stand to stand to sample some – okay, all – of the great wines on offer. It was a HOT weekend, and so naturally first on our list was all the chilled Rose, Prosecco and Riesling we could drink. all we wanted was a glass of rose. Wineries from around the globe showcased their best bottles – we tried award-winning Rose from Provence, fabulous Riesling from Germany, and even British sparkling wine from Mayfair, London. Who knew?
We got to meet the passionate producers and get the inside scoop
One of our favourite parts of the Wine Fiesta were the winemaker sessions called Wine Circle, a free guided tasting and talk. Festival attendees just needed to arrive 15 minutes before each session to nab a cushion, while participating producers shared their wine and their stories about their bottles. From curious drinkers to serious wine enthusiasts, this was truly a great foray for anyone who wanted to open their eyes to the wonderful world of wine.
Food, glorious food
What is an outdoor vino fest without some incredible food to pair it with, and Wine Fiesta delivered! There was of course mouthwatering bites from the very best chefs in the Singaporean restaurant game – Monti, Maggie Joan’s, Morsels, Meat Smith, and Salted & Hung provided the nibbles much needed after one too many tastings. We were thrilled to finally be able to try out what our sisters in Singapore have been enjoying and we got our fill of of the very best. We still have dreams about Salted & Hung’s pavlova and Monti’s truffle risotto, and can’t wait to book into their actual restaurants the next time we’re in town.
