A classic tea house this is not! Lewis and Carroll is a modern tea lounge that has tea drinkers coming back for more
Sure, coffee has its moments but now tea drinkers in Jakarta have a go-to spot to head out to. If tea is your cup of choice, then Lewis & Carroll is a must-visit dining spot where it is tea time at any time of day. Located in Pakubuwono on the brand new Bumi Four block that also houses Yoga Dham, an Iyengar yoga studio, Lewis and Carroll is a hub for the city’s most discerning tea drinkers.
We paid a visit to the tea lounge and were immediately impressed by their gorgeous interiors. The beautiful tea room is seemingly designed with very deliberate décor decisions: large windows for ample natural lighting, marbled table tops, even a wall of potted plants – a picture perfect place for the Instagram set.
As one of the best-stocked tea rooms in Jakarta, Lewis and Carroll serves teas from all over Indonesia, China, Korea, and interestingly Germany, where dried fruit technology is apparently top notch. Who knew?
Once you’ve sat yourself down, a waiter comes bearing a massive tray holding test tubes upon test tubes of fragrant dried tea leaves for you to choose from. There’s every type of infusion you can imagine: black, white, herbal, green, oolong, spice, fruits, and even flowers, that span from all over the world. Admittedly, we’re not the biggest tea drinkers, but we did enjoy their original Snow Owl blend, which was a lovely subtle white tea. If you discover that you love the tea you’ve just tried, you can take home their original infusions to brew at home.
To round up your afternoon tea drinking experience are all kinds of sweet treats by one our favourites: Kommunal 88. Also on offer is ice cream by Eskimomo, pastries by Beau, and even coffee by Common Grounds for the non-tea drinkers.
That’s not all – if you’re hungry for something a little more substantial, Lewis and Carroll’s in-house kitchen can whip up a delicious dish off their menu for you. We recommend the crusted grilled chicken, and not to be missed is their divine signature matcha panna cotta – a perfectly creamy dessert so delicious that even on its own is enough to keep us coming back for more.
