The Jakarta Performing Arts Community will be bringing their theatrical adaptation of this romantic saga to stage at Taman Ismail Marzuki on 12-14 May 2017.
Those who are artistically-inclined should never be bored in the Big Durian! Besides the many unique art spaces scattered all over Jakarta, there are always music performances, film festivals and theatre shows aplenty. This time around, a group of aspiring artists by the name of Jakarta Performing Arts Community (JPAC) is about to bring to stage the all-time favourite Broadway musical West Side Story from 12 to 14 May 2017 at Taman Ismail Marzuki.
Set in New York City, this Romeo and Juliet-inspired musical tale will sweep you away through the love story of Tony and Maria, lovebirds from two feuding gangs with different ethnicities. Beyond Tony and Maria’s epic romance, West Side Story highlights the importance of accepting and appreciating each other’s differences – a story that resonates perfectly with Indonesia as a very beautifully diverse country. The entire cast on stage will act, sing, and dance their way to remind us that differences should be embraced.
Want to get in the fun? If theatre life is something you are passionate about, JPAC is always open for volunteer opportunities, welcoming in new members as cast or crew every time a new production is on its way. Since 2014, the troupe has embraced many talented individuals coming from different backgrounds, races, and nationalities.
West Side Story by JPAC, 12 – 14 May 2017, Graha Bhakti Budaya at Taman Ismail Marzuki Jakarta. Tickets are IDR 100,000 – IDR 300,000. p. +628 999165821 (Desmonda).
