Craving breakfast in Central Jakarta? Start your day right with brunch and excellent coffee at KLTR Coffee Roasters.
Who doesn’t love waking up in the morning to a good cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast meal? We don’t know about you, but we obviously do! Lucky for us, we live in the city of Jakarta where countless new coffee shops and brunch places are opening doors almost every month (or maybe weeks?), and much to our delight, one of the latest to join the scene is KLTR Coffee Roasters. In the mere few weeks since its opening, the coffee shop-slash-restaurant has gained instant fame through social media, especially since KLTR is also owned by the owner of Koultoura and under the same management as its neighbours Cassis Kitchen and Harum Manis.
Once we stepped in the door at KLTR, the strong aroma of coffee beans and peaceful sound of coffee brewing immediately welcomed us, reminding us about the familiar feeling we have at its sister restaurant, Koultoura. West Jakartans will probably be more familiar with Koultoura, as it is one of the first neighbourhood coffee shops to set foot in Taman Ratu since 2013. But while we were expecting the same concept and look as its sibling’s – bright and fun with illustrations of animal characters here and there – we were caught by surprise as KLTR’s vibes are actually entirely different.
Decorated with industrial-style interiors, KLTR is darker and more masculine. A big coffee roaster is placed by the window while the coffee bar is set in the middle of the space, where you can sit on the bar stool and watch the barista in action. The indoor space isn’t too big, and you can also sit at its outdoor smoking area or in front of the window.
Although different stylewise, KLTR, like Koultoura, prides itself in serving an excellent brunch menu. Open daily from 7 AM, the restaurant serves light breakfast meals such as Cobb Salad, Smoked Salmon, Avocado Toast, Two Stack Pancakes and Strawberry Yogurt. But being the big eater that we are, our favourite certainly falls on its Full Breakfast, served with pork bacon, spicy sausage, tomato, and egg. The egg is unique in itself, as it is neither scrambled nor poached like the usual ones we have, but aerated, making it fluffy and foamy.
Coming in for something more fulfilling for lunch time? Get the Beef Yakimeshi, one of KLTR’s most standout dishes, which comes with fried rice spiced with truffle essence and poached egg.
An even greater selection of dishes is served starting from 5 PM, and this is the moment to get excited because the Truffle Risotto we had for dinner is just too good! One of the most recommended dishes at KLTR, the risotto overflows with everything truffle – truffle mushroom, truffle cream and shaved truffle – so who could say no, really?
As for dessert, Eggs Meet Sour Whiskey was our personal favourite. Technically a crème brulée with blueberry and whiskey ice cream, this is a perfect dessert for every whiskey lover. And when you’re there, obviously, don’t miss their great coffee, which uses beans from Finca Hartman, Panama and Huta Raja Simalungun, North Sumatra. With such excellent coffee and food plus a cosy ambience, what’s not to love? Just try it yourself and who knows KLTR will soon become your favourite go-to coffee shop too!
