In Indoestri Day #04, Indoestri's huge warehouse was transformed into a public showcase that celebrated these creative doers
A board covered in Post-Its at the entrance of Indoestri Makerspace asks “What is stopping you from pursuing your dreams?” The idea is to demonstrate that anyone can scribble down an excuse as to why they are not chasing their passions. Through their massive maker space, Indoestri hopes to reignite the fire beneath budding entrepreneurs inspiring a whole new generation of creative go-getters.
Just last week, Indoestri’s huge warehouse was transformed into a public showcase that celebrated these creative doers. The weekend preview was a sneak peek of sorts into what goes down at the maker space. Upstairs, the large studio space was set up with live demo stations to show the broad range of projects you get involved in at Indoestri. Rather than just seeing the finished product, visitors were able to explore the space and chat with Indoestri instructors to witness the process of making everything from shoes, pottery, screen printings, laser cuts, and even ukuleles.
Those who wanted to get their hands dirty, and not just watch, could partake in one of the fun workshops held that weekend like calligraphy, watercolor illustration, leather notebook making, and even cake stand decorating. Don’t worry though, if you missed the event, Indoestri regularly holds a slew of interesting workshops to suit your interests (just check out their calendar).
A highlight of the event came from the inspirational stories of successful creative doers. Downstairs, Indoestri founder Leonardo Theosabrata moderated a panel featuring entrepreneurs such as Melissa Sunjaya from Tulisan, Kania Annisa Anggiani from Chic & Darling, Kevin Mintaraga from Bridestory, and Michael Wijono from Union Group, because what better way to gain insights into creating a successful brand than tapping into the minds of these industry leaders?
Some takeaways? The world is your oyster as long as you are willing to roll up your sleeves and put in the hard work. Start small, build upon your successes, don’t be discouraged by your failures, and appreciate the value of teaming up with the right partner. Indoestri’s own success stories include local brands NV Goods, Moonlake Kids, Kottonomi, and Letlov, previous students of Indoestri’s Leatherworks and Shoe Making Workshops, whose works were proudly displayed in the main lobby. Meanwhile, those who wanted to indulge in a bit of retail therapy could also browse through Pasar Indoestri, the artisanal marketplace where we also discovered the uber cute and uber delicious Cotton and Tarlets bite-sized tartlets. We look forward to the next Indoestri Day!
