World-famous GROM has been passionate about making the finest quality gelato using only the freshest and most natural ingredients from their organic farm in Italy since 2003. They just recently opened their Jakarta outpost and the hype has been massive – there is a huge line snaking out their Pacific Place cream parlour at all times of day. If you haven’t had a chance to try them, we suggest you do so now. Their delectably creamy gelatos are divine. Must-try signature flavours include their ‘Limone Sorbet’ and ‘Cioccolato Fondente Gelato.’

Magnum Cafe is a spot where you can take the humble Magnum (in its original super sized or mini variety) and trick it out to your heart’s content. We’re talking toppings galore: add sprinkles, nuts, chocolate chips, strawberry syrup, whipped cream, you name it. If that’s not enough sugar for you, dine in and get your Magnum as a mere side dish to the myriad of decadent desserts on like freshly baked cake, waffles, crepes, mousses, macarons, and even souffles. Now we’re talking, right?

Es Krim Om
This one’s a bit of a drive, but oh-so-worth it. Chandra Suryadinata, the om (uncle) of Es Krim Om, churns this homemade gelato from scratch every day by himself. Because of this, the ice cream artisan only produces small batches that quickly sell out hours after they’re available for sale. With flavours that range from Earl Grey to olive oil and parmesan (we’re dying to try this one), and caffe mascarpone to matcha green tea, and chai latte to and brioche and jam this icy treat is definitely anything but average.
Es Krim Om. Taman Diponegoro, Jl. Gunung Pelangi No. 106, Karawaci, Tangerang.
As its name suggests, the ice cream at Ron’s Laboratory is scientifically made using liquid nitrogen. Both tasty and innovative, this is where you get to make wonderfully weird concoctions like their ‘Cookie Monster’ bubble gum and cookie based gelato with a syringe filled with an injection of chocolate. Perhaps not exactly what the doctor ordered, but we’ll take it anyway.

We love these handcrafted gelati on a stick. So much in fact that it’s become an addiction that may land us in Popaholics Anonymous! Take a peep at the popologists at work while they produce gelato, sorbetto and yoghurt popbars fresh daily. And if that isn’t enough, the popbars can be customised to your liking. Pick your favourite chocolate dipping and poppings from almonds, coconut flakes, peanuts and more. Popbars are perfect for everyone even those with allergies and food restrictions. They’re made natural with real fruit, minus artificial flavourings, preservatives, and high fructose corn syrup. Kosher, vegan and gluten-free options are also available.
PopBar, Lotte Shopping Avenue, Lower Ground, next to Ranch Market, Kuningan, Jakarta Selatan (see website for various locations).
LIN Artisan Ice cream
For some extreme ice cream head to LIN in Kemang. LIN, short for Liquid Nitrogen, is as unique as it gets. Choose from their tried and tested menu of gelato and sorbets. Your order is made from scratch using the freshest ingredients sourced locally, no artificial colourings and flavourings, and preservative free! The showstopper? Watch your order go from raw ingredients to a frozen treat right before your very eyes, thanks to some smoky cold LN2. Your treat is worth the wait! Big kids and little kids will love it and better yet – it’s healthy and a little guilt-free too.

Pesca has plenty of premium quality sweet treats for ice cream addicts. Order tailor-made ice cream cakes with all sorts of flavours for a special celebration or try out their petite ice cream; they’re delightful mini ice cream treats that go down in one gulp and make for the perfect gift! Delivery service available on request.
Ragusa is unique because it’s the longest running ice-cream parlour in town. It’s even made it into The Indonesian Museum of Records for that reason! Ragusa first opened its doors in 1932 and are still serving up traditional ice cream treats that’s preservative free to this day. What we love most? It’s still got its charm with its old rattan furniture, antique wooden paintings, and old photographs from decades ago. Perfect to take out-of-towners for a feel of Old Batavia or go there to reminisce on the good ‘ol days.
