In this edition of Hot New Tables: Zenraku, Farmers Bowl, Sushi Matsu, Yoisho Ramen, Lalla
If there’s one thing we are always excited about, it will be the new restaurant openings in Jakarta. After all, scouring the city to bring you the best hot new tables is what we have always enjoyed doing, and this month is no exception. Whether you’re craving for delicious Japanese comfort food like sushi and ramen, want to kick-start a healthy eating habit, or want to try new dishes like Dashi Chazuke or a unique fusion South American cuisine, here are the best new restaurants you should try this February.
Jakartans are no stranger to Japanese food. In fact, a lot Japanese restaurants are opening up in the Big Durian, but ironically, before Zenraku, none of them has ever served Dashi Chazuke, a dish that’s actually one of the most common comfort food in Japan. Helmed by Chef Yamamoto of Abura Soba, Zenraku finally opens in Jakarta to introduce this underrated Japanese dish, serving somen and rice bowls with toppings like abura salmon, teriyaki unagi, and sukiyaki beef that are poured with their signature dashi soup stock. To complete the meal, don’t forget to get their side dishes, especially their favourite Poke Tuna Sashimi Yuzu Kosho and Ebi Katsu.

Developing a healthy lifestyle is now made easier thanks to the trend of healthy restaurants in Jakarta, one of the trends in the city that we actually embrace with open arms. The latest to join the scene is Farmers Bowl, a new addition to the neighbourhood of Senopati that serves healthy, fresh grain bowls. They have five signature bowls, inspired from different cuisines, including the Japanese-inspired Ninja Bowl, Korean-inspired Gangnam Bowl, Thai-inspired Siam Bowl, the Summer Bowl and the vegan Harvest Bowl. You can also build your own bowl from scratch if none of them suit your preferences.

Those living or working in Central Jakarta or Menteng can rejoice because Sushi Matsu, an affordable and authentic Japanese restaurant has opened up in the area. Located in front of Cemara Hotel, the restaurant takes pride in their sushi, with highlights including the Beef Aburi Yakinikuzushi and the Duck Spoon Set. For more fulfilling dishes, don’t forget to try their signature Matsu Chirashi, which comes with nine kinds of raw fish, and the Truffle Gyudon, served with the perfectly cooked onsen egg and garlic chips.

Looking for unique Japanese noodles? Check out the newly opened Yoisho Ramen, which serves both the traditional soup ramen and dry ramen called mazemen. Located beside Namaaz in Senopati, this ramen joint specialises in chicken-based ramen, served with chicken char siu and unique toppings such as cheese, green chilli, shrimp paste or terasi, and Manadonese sambal roa. To accompany the ramen, get their Tori Gyoza and Honey Butter Potato Chips for sides and don’t forget to try their Watermelon Sake, a concoction of sake and watermelon juice served inside a watermelon shell.

Fans of South American cuisine will definitely love Lalla, the hot new restaurant at Capital Place in Gatot Subroto. The dining spot combines Mexican, Cuban, Peruvian, and Brazilian dishes with an Asian twist through the use of local ingredients, making their food rich of flavours that suit our liking. The highlights include their Ceviche with sambal matah, Croqueta, Wagyu Striploin with bone marrow, Saffron Lamb Leg and Grilled Oyster Mushrooms Rice Plate, Pound Cake, and Coco Loco. Their food and drink are not the only thing that you’ll love about Lalla, as they have chic interiors that makes a great backdrop for your Instagram pics. Think high ceilings, shady trees that stand tall in the middle of the long wooden table, and a concrete wall filled with colourful memorabilia from around the world.
