Who says healthy food has to be all greens? Farmers Bowl proves that healthy food can still be delicious and fulfilling with their signature grain bowls.
Trying to kick-start a healthy eating habit may seem like a difficult task, especially when you’re used to eating lots of carbs and comfort food (guilty!) Luckily, recently there has been a major influx in new healthy restaurants in Jakarta that make eating food that is good for you, not only easy, but delicious too. Case in point: Farmers Bowl, an eatery in Cikajang that serves fresh grain bowls.
If you think that healthy food means unfulfilling salads, then you need to get with the program. Farmers Bowl has five main signature bowls, all inspired from different cuisines. There’s the Japanese-inspired Ninja Bowl, Korean-inspired Gangnam Bowl, Thai-inspired Siam Bowl, the Summer Bowl and the vegan Harvest Bowl. Much to the delight of our empty stomachs, the bowls were generous (because there’s nothing worse than when a restaurant thinks healthy means teeny tiny portions) and smelled delicious even from afar.
Our favourite was the Ninja Bowl, made up of soba noodle, miso glazed salmon, sauteed beansprouts, grilled scallion tofu, salted edamame, sous vide egg, roasted sesame caramel, and garlic chili flakes. If you like spicy food, try their Gangnam Bowl, which comes with white rice, roasted balsamic beef, carrot beet vinaigrette, charred furikake corn, seasoned spinach, hard-boiled egg, emperor Korean chili vinaigrette, and fried onions.
If none of those pre-made bowls suit your fancy, fret not, as you can build your own bowl too. Start with your base of choice from white and red rice, super greens, soba noodle, and warm quinoa and couscous. Next, pick four supplements from Farmers Bowl’s choices that include sautéed beansprouts and spring onions, sautéed wild mushrooms, and sous vide egg, and then, a protein from their list of grilled chicken mushroom, grilled soy glazed tempeh, balsamic roasted beef, and miso glazed salmon. Lastly, choose desired dressing and toppings, and voila, you’ve just created a new dish for yourself!
After scarfing down their signature bowls, it’s time to treat yourself to Farmers Bowl’s Nicecream for dessert. With flavours such as berry, chocolate, and peanut butter, this ice cream is indeed nice for your health as it uses 100% fruit-based ingredients instead of dairy. If you’re bringing your kids and nannies along, you can also order the special dishes made just for them, and we’re pretty sure you kids will love this place as it shares a space with the baby-friendly spot Buba and Bump that also has an indoor playground.
