Whether you’re into traditional cheongsams or looking for modern dresses, here are the best outfit ideas for to welcome the Year of the Dog
The Year of the Dog is just around the corner, and if you’re still wondering what to wear to your upcoming family dinner on Chinese New Year’s Eve, you might need to start looking now. Luckily, we’ve rounded up the best stores in Jakarta selling Chinese New Year outfits with different price ranges that suit your pockets. From the traditional cheongsams that are believed to bring good luck to and prosperity, to the modern, non-body hugging outfits – just in case you’ve already planned to stuff your tummy during the long weekend – these stores have anything you want to wear this Lunar New Year.
Modern designs meet classic detailing for Pomelo’s Lunar New Year collection, which celebrates the arrival of the Chinese New Year with lots and lots of red flower motifs. Their wrap dresses are our favourite – not too traditional yet still classic and feminine, these dresses flaunt curves without being too sexy. If your style of choice is a bit more tomboyish, get their Tiger Embroidered Bomber Jacket, which can still look feminine when paired with frill pants or floral skirts. For a more traditional choice, you’ll want to have their Mandarin Collar Piped Floral Top or the more feminine Mini Mandarin Floral Satin A-Line Dress.

Atara The Label
To celebrate the festive Chinese New Year, Atara The Label is collaborating with blogger Anaz Siantar to launch a Chinese-themed collection. There are no traditional feminine cheongsams here – instead, you’ll find a Mandarin-collared, frog-buttoned blouse and dress which pairs well with the frog-buttoned wide-legged pants. Surprisingly, this Kungfu-esque shirt, normally worn by men, works perfectly for females as they come in fun colours like crimson red, mustard, and off white. Their versatile white Delia Outer is our favourite though – it can be worn as a coat or a dress and comes with a cute salmon-coloured Chinese obi.
