Gems in Alam Sutera and Lippo Village
We’ve roamed over the best of Bintaro and BSD, but how about the rest of TangSel? These new developments might be way out west but they’ve got everything you need so you don’t have to battle the macet!
The fastest way to get to Tangerang Selatan (TangSel) is through the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR). To get to Alam Sutera and Lippo Village, just go to the end of the line and take the last exit BSD City/Serpong/Tangerang for the rest of BSD, Alam Sutera and Lippo Village.
Alam Sutera complex is easily recognized by its clock landmark on the roundabout at Jalan Raya Serpong. Here are two reasons why Alam Sutera is worth noting – one, it’s a culinary hotspot. Two, Indonesia’s first IKEA store will be opened here – we don’t know exactly where just yet (it’s any day now, the building and signage are up), but we’ll be the first to find out!
Turn on to Alam Sutera Boulevard and find Flavor Bliss, a culinary and entertainment complex so successful, they had to expand the area from 1 to 6 hectares! If you’re on the ramen bandwagon, then Ikkudo Ichi is a must-try! If you’re craving Chinese-style noodles, opt for Imperial Lamian and watch the skilled chef work his magic turning dough into hand-pulled noodles. We also love the Singkawang cuisine at Warung Rawit.
Food is not the only reason we love Flavor Bliss (even though that’s enough of a reason in our book). Check out the action-packed entertainment in the complex: Patriot Paintball, Spartan Futsal, and Little Jungle. Get some aggression out at Patriot Paintball, but be careful, those suckers sting! At Spartan, you can run around, build up a good sweat, and bond with your fellow teammates. And let’s not forget about the smallest athletes in your family, Little Jungle takes playtime to a new level of excitement for the little ones!
Close to Flavor Bliss is the Living World Mall, home of the Wednesday Evening Jazz, hosted by the Serpong Jazz Society. Jazz stars and up-and-coming musicians take turns in swinging the mall’s atrium. Our favorite restaurant in this mall is the Bebek Tepi Sawah, the first branch of our favorite Balinese grub outside the Island of the Gods. Their crispy duck is always a winner, and their mocktails keep us coming back for more!

Formerly known as Lippo Karawaci, the rebranded Lippo Village is a perfect suburb. If it wasn’t for those pesky jobs in the city, we would never leave!
The area is dominated by housing clusters, schools and a university, but the main reason people keep coming here (as we have previously raved about) is the Imperial Klub Golf. Get ready for 18 holes of club-swinging fun designed by British golf architect Desmond Muirhead. Watch out for the course’s toughest hole, no. 12, also known as “Madonna”- hats off for you if you can nail it!
If you’re not much of a golfer, the Aryaduta Country Club has an awesome Balinese-style pool and a wonderful jogging track through lush greens. Dreaming of a weekend getaway? Book a room at the Aryaduta Hotel and wake up early to enjoy the verdant scenery and Tangerang air. Sorry, Jakarta, as much as we love you, we breathe better here.
As for culinary escapades, Lippo Village has Benton Junction, a food promenade with loads of options – it’s the it place for university students. Our pick is Mom Milk for it’s, well, milk! We love their Mom Milk Cookies and Mom Milk Caramel, and their straw glasses always amuse us. For sweet treats, we go to Karei-ya for their stuffed fruit Nutella martabak. Craving something savory? Opt for their “interesting” Martabak Beef Cocktail.
Just a three-minutes walk from Benton Junction is Tang’s Chinese Cuisine at Taman Sari Food Court. This restaurant is the top pick of Karawaci families thanks to its signature Tahu Huang (a tofu hotplate cooked with the Huang family special recipe).
For Peking duck, opt for Eastern at Ruko Cyber Park. Watch out for special offers – sometimes their scrumptious ducks go half the price! In the Ruko Pinangsia area, we love Myeong Ga Myeon Ok for their Korean fare. Their yam yeom galbi (sweet beef ribs) has Jakarta food bloggers going the distance just for a taste.
An overview of Lippo Village is incomplete without mentioning Supermall Karawaci. When you’re travelling with a pack, make a stop here to visit the biggest Timezone arcade in Indonesia, it’s a kid’s dream! In addition to the games, this outlet takes it up a notch with new rides in the Timezone Adrenaline Zone, which just opened in early April. Our highlights: the Drop and Double Twist Tower with an 18-meter drop and Tekno-Fly, a ride that reaches 14 meters. Didn’t think you’d be screaming in a mall? Think again!
