When tech entrepreneur, Krystal Choo, started Wander last year, she saw it as a tool for bringing single travellers together so there will be less lonely people and moments in Singapore, or the world, for that matter. The app, which raised more than half a million in funding, shows you other solo guys and gals travelling to the same place.
But the old Wander no longer exists. In its place is a reboot that targets more than just solo travellers; its scope of audience has expanded, and singles can now form and join groups based on common interests, events and places. Going to Ultra in Bali for instance? Chat up other EDM-loving folks who are also heading to the festival.
How it works: login to Wander with Facebook and select your interest groups. The app then recommends the most compatible chat rooms from all over the world for you to join. You can also check out other members, and even create sub-groups to discuss more specific topics.
It takes away the sleaze that usually comes with hookup-fuelled apps like Tinder, if you ask us. So if you’re looking for some quick, no-strings-attached action, it’s probably best to look elsewhere. “Meeting new people over shared interests is so much more enjoyable, because it’s a familiar environment,” says Krystal. “Wander is a platform where people can just be themselves, and have great conversations with others like them.”
P.S.: Found a new friend and wondering where to go for FFDs (First Friend Dates) in Singapore? Here are some cool ideas!
Wander is available globally for iOS on App Store, and Android on Play Store.
