After winning a whopping six medals at the Tokyo Games a couple of years back, our Hong Kong athletes are heading to Paris, ready to give their all once more for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Let\u2019s celebrate our city\u2019s team of hardworking sports stars, including returning female Olympians<\/a> Siobhan Haughey and Vivian Kong, and their fellow Olympians, as they take over the City of Light to snag some medals and make us proud. Let the memes<\/a> begin!<\/p>\n

Cheer on these Hong Kong athletes at the Olympic Games!<\/h2>\n

1. Edgar Cheung Ka-long<\/h3>\n

The man who inspired Hong Kong parents everywhere to sign their child up for fencing lessons, Edgar Cheung Ka-long is back to defend his gold medal at the 2024 Olympics. This lefty foil fencer will once again be competing in the Men\u2019s Foil category in Fencing \u2013 a category he has excelled at in previous World Cups, Grand Prix, and Asian Championships. Hong Kongers will definitely be glued to their screens when Cheung takes the piste, undoubtedly hoping for a two-peat victory. Get ready for the \u201cCheung Ka-long effect\u201d 2.0!<\/p>\n

2. Siobhan Haughey<\/h3>\n

Splashing around in pools since she was an infant, Siobhan Haughey has broken records throughout Hong Kong and Asia on her way to the Olympics. Having represented the city since the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016 and won not one, but two silver medals for swimming in the 2020 Tokyo Games, all goggles will be on Haughey to see if she nabs gold this year. You can look forward to seeing the Irish-Hong Kong athlete fly through the pool in over five Swimming categories, including her previously victorious 100m and 200m Freestyle races.<\/p>\n

3. Lo Wai-fung<\/h3>\n

Even before the Games begin, Lo Wai-fung has already made history. Joining the roster of Hong Kong athletes for the 2024 Olympics, Lo is the first-ever HK qualifier for Taekwondo! Although the route to this momentous achievement was a bit wavy, his three wins in the 68kg category at the Asia Olympic Games qualifiers look promising. Be sure to watch the city make its Taekwondo debut as Lo steps on the mat!<\/p>\n

4. Vivian Kong Man-wai<\/h3>\n

The number one world-ranked female women\u2019s epee fencer as of 2024, Vivian Kong Man-wai is back to represent Hong Kong for her third Olympic Games. A lefty like fellow fencer Edgar Cheung, Kong will be competing in the Women\u2019s epee category \u2013 the same category where she\u2019s won gold at numerous World Cups and Grand Prix. Already etched in the history books of Hong Kong with her fierce fencing skills, we\u2019re hoping Kong keeps her winning streak going in Paris.<\/p>\n

5. Cindy Cheung Sum-yuet<\/h3>\n

Also diving into the Olympic pool in Paris is Cindy Cheung Sum-yuet, a 17-year-old swimming prodigy. Competing in the Women\u2019s 200m Backstroke, this young Hong Kong athlete has won several Hong Kong Age Group Swimming Championships with this stroke. Qualifying to swim at the Olympics before she could legally drink, she\u2019s already wowed the rest of us back home!<\/p>\n

6. Jordan Tang Chun-man and Tse Ying-suet<\/h3>\n

After placing fourth in the 2020 Tokyo Games with Badminton Mixed Doubles, teammates Tse Ying-suet and Jordan Tang Chun-man are back in Paris to compete for the title again. As they\u2019ve already won the 2024 BWF Super 300 German Open, we\u2019re crossing our fingers that these talented shuttlers make the podium this year! Watching these two lefties dominate the court will be a nail-biter \u2013 hopefully all the way to the finals.<\/p>\n

7. Daniel Chan Ho-yuen<\/h3>\n

As we celebrate another Olympic season in Hong Kong, let\u2019s not forget the 2024 Paralympics<\/a>, which is also taking place in Paris. Among the line-up of top Hong Kong athletes is para-badminton player, Daniel Chan Ho-yuen. Having won bronze in the Men’s Singles WH2 category for the first ever Paralympics Para-Badminton competition in Tokyo, Chan will hopefully reach the podium again this year.
