While we love getting dressed up and indulging at the classiest fine dining restaurants in Hong Kong<\/a>, sometimes we just need something cheap and cheerful. We’ve already spilled on the best cheap Sai Ying Pun lunch spots<\/a> and where to grab lunch in Central<\/a>, so now it’s time for our list of the best cheap eats in Sheung Wan that will fill the gap.<\/p>\n

Namaste Kitchen<\/h3>\n

Ahhhh… Namaste Kitchen. We love this peach of a place on Queen\u2019s Road West for its homemade samosas, excellent curries and damn good onion kulcha. Current faves include the Mushroom Aloo and the Lamb Biryani, and throw in a Garlic Broccoli to reach your five plus. The best thing is, you can get away with eating a meal for under $100 here, plus it\u2019s open from 11am – #winning.<\/p>\n

Chickpea curry, 1000 layer tofu and Mexican tofu tacos at Confusion Plant Based Kitchen (we could eat this every day!)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

With an ever-changing array of dishes made with love, Confusion is one of our absolute favourite Sheung Wan hangs. Staples on the menu include a tasty banh mi and we never skip the hedgehog mushroom tacos. The fact that everything is vegan is an added extra.<\/p>\n

The holy grail of cheap eats, Queen Street Cooked Food Market has a little something for everyone under one roof. Chautari serves some mean Indian & Nepalese food (the samosas are insane!), while Beijing Dumpling House makes a small selection of remarkably cooked dumplings. ABC Kitchen does Hong Kong-style Italian (you\u2019ll have to book here) while Thai & Vietnam Cuisine does pretty much what it says. Can\u2019t choose? Order from different vendors and sample a bunch of things.<\/p>\n

Bagels! Who doesn\u2019t love them? Schragels makes New York-style bagels that taste divine. We\u2019re partial to some scallion schmear on a poppy seed bagel, but when we\u2019re hungry, we hit the bagel sandwiches hard. The Loxy Lady hits those smoked salmon vibes, while the Reuben satisfies any meat cravings. While you\u2019re there, pick up some bagels to put in the freezer!<\/p>\n

Aberdeen Chau Kee Dim Sum<\/h3>\n

Open from 8am, Aberdeen Chau Kee Dim Sum is the place you need to hit when you\u2019re hunting for local cheap eats in Sheung Wan. The French toast with salted egg custard filling is as extra as it sounds, and the pork buns get a thumbs up too. They even have a vegan selection that includes meat-free turnip cake and tasty dumplings with vegetables and pine nuts.<\/p>\n

Need a Korean fix to quell your hunger? K-Roll makes delicious gimbap and bowls that will feed you up right. We love the Spicy Tofu Korrito (half rice roll, half burrito) that is big enough to keep you going for lunch and you can\u2019t go wrong with their version of Dukbokki too, we order the cheese version if we\u2019re in need of comfort food.<\/p>\n

Bit of a sushi monster? We hear ya! Expect fresh sash and sush combos at this little joint, with excellent prices for the quality. You can grab a lunch set for $198, meaning it’s not the cheapest on our list, but it’s taste and setting are worth it.<\/p>\n

Easy breezy Vietnamese, that\u2019s what Pho Nhat is all about. For lunch, we\u2019re partial to the soft shell crab and green papaya salad, but when we want something more substantial, we\u2019re all about their cold vermicelli: any flavour will do (plus they\u2019re all around the $70 mark.)<\/p>\n

27 Kebab House<\/h3>\n

27 Kebab House will fill you up<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I pretty much lived off 27 Kebab when I was in hospital with a broken leg for a month! This Turkish kebab house makes cheap and cheerful kebabs with a particularly delicious falafel version. It\u2019s a tiny restaurant, so best not to rely on getting a table there, but we often grab takeaway and set up at the small park around the corner. The hummus is also excellent, and don\u2019t skip the baklava.<\/p>\n
