Maybe it\u2019s a regular trip to the hair salon<\/a> to change up your look, getting pampered with Hong Kong’s best massages<\/a> now and then, or having mobile beauty services<\/a> come to your home, but most of us indulge in a few beauty routines that we can\u2019t live without. And for me, it\u2019s my nails. Since moving to East Asia over ten years ago, I’ve become obsessed with having affordable and fun nail art add a little bling to my fingers, so when I heard that The Nailtural was offering toxic-free vegan options, I had to go and check it out for myself.<\/p>\n

The story behind The Nailtural<\/h3>\n

While I was getting my nails done, Elmand, the owner of the salon was explaining why she opened the salon around two years ago. She\u2019d recently gotten married and her father mentioned that she should probably stop getting manicures as the toxins might prevent her from getting pregnant. When she did some more research into this, she was shocked to realise just how many chemicals are used during manicures, so she decided that she wanted to be part of the solution in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n

She searched high and low for the best products and found Canadian brand Luxio by Akzentz who create toxin-free vegan gel polish in a range of beautiful colours. As well as the polish, she ensures that the different products used in each manicure do as little harm as possible, with even the nail dryers only affecting the nails themselves and not the skin around them.<\/p>\n

It’s probably good to point out that Elmand is currently pregnant and sporting a lovely set of pregnancy-safe nails (done in-house, of course!)<\/p>\n

Getting arty<\/h3>\n

I\u2019d recently seen loads of cool Picasso-style faces popping up on Instagram and I asked my technician Amy to blend these with some purple effects. As she got to work, I knew I was in good hands. Amy gave me the best manicure of my life (a Russian manicure that wasn’t as invasive), and, two weeks later, my cuticles still look amazing.<\/p>\n

She also worked on creating the perfect shape for each nail, and all of this attention to detail really made a difference. On top of that, when she heard that I also loved everything gold, she offered to put on some gold leaf, which I think really elevated the final result.<\/p>\n

The manicure has lasted super well, with absolutely no chipping over these fourteen days, and it’s only $368 for soak off gel removal, manicure and plain colours. I totally understand why The Nailturalist is popular with brides and pregnant ladies, as the entire salon is kept chemical-free.<\/p>\n

I can\u2019t wait to go back.<\/p>\n
