Serve-a-thon <\/h3>\n

HandsOn Hong Kong is proud to present its annual Serve-a-thon. This city-wide initiative is made possible due to the participation and support of many NGOs, corporates, schools, organisations, government, media and civil society. Hong Kong’s Community Service Week brings together everyone, whom together, roll up their sleeves and volunteer. The aim is to raise public awareness around the importance of community service and encourage conversations regarding poverty, education, assisting the elderly, empowering people with disabilities, environmental conservation and more. \u200b\u200b\u200bFor this year, join them on 4-12 May to help address social issues! <\/p>\n

Rooftop Republic<\/h3>\n

Rooftop Republic is a company enthusiastic about the potential for urban farming transforming both urban spaces and our communities mindsets in Hong Kong. Basically, to make the city more sustainable and liveable. Get the kid’s hands dirty through learning to grow their own veggies. Join one of their farm-to-table events, talks or farm visits and learn about the fundamental principles and practices of organic farming through group discussions, games and practical hands-on agriculture. Led by experienced organic farmers, they conduct workshops suitable for all ages and levels of experience.\u200b <\/p>\n

The Hong Kong Cleanup Challenge has firmly established itself as a well-loved and vital part of the Hong Kong event landscape. It has engaged over 350,000 participants and cleaned up over 70 million pieces of trash on beaches. It isn\u2019t only an event but a year-long education program that works with local communities, schools, government and businesses to provide practical solutions in helping us all live a more sustainable life year round. The annual Cleanup Challenge, running from 1 January to 1 December, is open to the general public. So why not dedicate some time to our environment and make it one of the best ways to volunteer with kids in Hong Kong?<\/p>\n

The Foster Parent Programme run by the SPCA helps children experience caring for animals in need of special care or recovering from severe sickness or surgery. The animals benefit tremendously from living with foster parents in a stress-free home environment during their recovery. What makes it even greater is that foster parents often identify potential permanent homes for the animals as they hit up their network of friends. Help the SPCA to re-home and save more animals! <\/p>\n

Hong Kong Community Composting<\/h3>\n

Hong Kong Community Composting is an excellent way for kids to have an on-going project at home that equips them with a pretty amazing life-long skill. HKCC\u2019s goal is to close the loop between producing domestic food waste and returning it to the soil. As a group, they are on a mission to find a range of composting solutions suitable for Hong Kong families in all sorts of living situations and environments. The challenge can be a small space with little to no outdoor space, dealing with wild boars or families who frequently travel. And don\u2019t worry, they offer guidance for the novice home composter.<\/p>\n

HK Recycles<\/h3>\n

In 2016, the recycling rate was at 34 per cent, the lowest it has been in the last ten years. They found Hong Kongers were throwing away 10,345 tonnes of municipal solid waste into landfills per day, or 3.7 million tonnes per year. Shockingly we are solely reliant on three landfills. HK Recycles wants to provide a hands-on learning experience. It believes ecological awareness is achieved through education starting from a young age, with their emphasis on student engagement. Involving students in the collection and separation process will give them a hands-on experience of our very-real dilemma. Your kids could flag the program to their teacher and their school (let\u2019s stop using single-use plastic<\/a>!) HK recycles works closely with schools and has developed a new Green Committee program to give more responsibility to the students. Go and get involved.<\/p>\n
