You might think it’s is a typical make-over show, but the depth of transformation of the straight guys (and girls) in this show is what is heartwarming and addictive. Oh, and there is the seriously fierce and fabulous Jonathan (my absolute favourite queen) – who just makes you smile and want to be more like him in everything you do: fashion catwalk at work – absolutely!

So here’s why you need a little Queer Eye in your life…

Walk in their shoes (or heels)

Series 3 has definitely turned it up a notch on finding amazing characters that, for various reasons, are in serious need of a life transformation (aka a week with the Fab Five). From a young lesbian struggling with her identity, to a still-grieving father whose wife died of cancer, these stories are heart-breaking, and the characters open up their lives and let the Fab Five and the audience in. Not only are they raw, honest accounts of people stuck in a rut, in desperate need of a confidence boost or a new perspective – but they are stories that everyone can relate to, we’ve all been there at some point. It’s incredible what a bit of self confidence, a new haircut and power of positivity and a face mask can do!

The fashion

As a lover of fashion, I do enjoy seeing what Tan can do with a well cut pair of jeans, some buff shoes and a collared shirt. He can do a range of looks, and really takes into account the personality of each person, so there is no cookie-cutter style; he gives people the confidence to try new things, invest in their personal brand, and the straight guys and girls definitely walk a little taller with more confidence just from the style advice alone.

The men in heels

I really don’t know what it is about men in heels, but I do love it. Maybe it’s a Queen of the Desert hangover, but when someone can be that confident in their own skin, it’s joyous to watch. Jonathon is all this and more. I just want to bottle him up and sprinkle a little Jonathan across my week, if that is a thing!

Queer Eye 3 | Sunscreen Song

Everyone sing along to the Sunscreen Song 🎶 Joeeeeeeeeeyyyyyy, use me. He takes what is often a seriously depressing home (broken furniture, mess everywhere, never been styled spaces) into something worthy of a magazine spread. As an interiors junkie who is always looking for inspiration, Bobby’s talented transformations are very inspiring to watch – without being a whole show on just interiors makeover ‘cause who needs another one of those, right?

Straight men giving it a go

One of the things I love to see is straight men taking advice from the Fab Five, and there is no holding back. I just wish that more men would feel comfortable having five gay guys coming into their lives and give them a few critical suggestions on style, culture, food and emotional connection. The world would be a better (and more accepting) place.

The reveal

Who doesn’t love the reveal! After a week of prepping, shopping, styling and cultural and emotional coaching the Fab Five hit their loft and watch from afar the version 2.0 of their subject. The difference the show makes in these people’s lives is just the stuff of great television.

I’m not sure if the subject selection has improved, the focus on the emotional coaching a lot stronger (and therefore the series is just that much deeper) but Queer Eye series 3 has honestly taken it to a new fabulous level. Just wondering when Asia is going to get our own Asian Queer Eye series, cause that would be fierce (cue Jonathan *hair flick*, honey.)

You know that we’re screen addicts here at Honeycombers Hong Kong.
