So, from crawling through walls, river running to racing after lights out, these Hong Kong running races and events will give you something to work towards in 2025.<\/p>\n

Hong Kong running races and events in 2025<\/h2>\n

1. Action Asia Events (2024 edition in progress)<\/h3>\n

Love the great outdoors? Action Asia Events hosts regular hikes and runs all over Hong Kong on the city\u2019s famous hiking trails. Its events are suitable for runners of all levels \u2013 feel free to choose your category. There are several upcoming races scheduled for 2024 all the way until December, such as the CBRE Lantau 2 Peaks (6 October), HK50 (26 October), and Hysan Island Hike & Run (24 November). Meanwhile, a few 2025 races have already been announced as well, like the Sai Kung 50 on 22 February. Additionally, Action Asia Events partners with local groups to raise funds to aid the underprivileged and to support nature conservation \u2013 what\u2019s not to love?<\/p>\n

2. Barclays Moontrekker (2024 edition in progress)<\/h3>\n

Think you can outrun the sun? Then get ready for the 2024 Barclays Moontrekker\u2019s race! This unique overnight trail race will take place from 18 to 19 October, where racers are challenged to reach the summit of Lantau Peak before sunrise. Three route options to the top are available, with 40km, 30km, and the introductory 20km for first-timers. The Moontrekker race also doubles as a fundraising event for environmental conservation, thus requiring all racers to raise a minimum sponsorship amount to enter as individuals, pairs, or as a team. This year\u2019s event is sure to be an exciting night \u2013 and anyone who misses out this time can get in shape for 2025!<\/p>\n

3. Raleigh Challenge \u2013 Wilson Trail (2024 edition in progress)<\/h3>\n

This heart-pumping charity race, meant to support local and overseas youth development projects, is back for its 40th edition in 2024! After five long years, the full physical version of the Raleigh Challenge \u2013 Wilson Trail is taking place again from 19 to 20 October with an approximate total distance of 80km. As usual, there will be Team and Relay Team categories participating in the Challenger \u2013 Whole Course (80km), Explorer \u2013 Day Course (30km), or Adventurer \u2013 Night Course (40km). Also, for the 40th anniversary, a special Solo category will be in play with the same subcategories and time limits as the team races. Good luck to the 2024 racers, and we look forward to seeing what Raleigh comes up with for 2025!<\/p>\n

4. TransLantau Hong Kong by UTMB (2024 edition in progress)<\/h3>\n

A Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc (UTMB) World Series event, TransLantau may be one of the most anticipated running races in Hong Kong every year. With the 2024 races set to commence from 8 to 10 November, it\u2019s safe to bet that the 2025 races will occur around the same time next year. Four races of varying distances and elevation will take place amidst the undisturbed hills and costs of Lantau Island: the TransLantau120 (129km), TransLantau100 (100km), TransLantau50 (52 km), and TransLantau25 (27 km). While running these events, you\u2019ll be able to explore the beautiful wilderness along Lantau\u2019s scenic trails \u2013 but don\u2019t forget to try to cross the finish line within the time limit!<\/p>\n

5. Oxfam Trailwalker (2024 edition in progress)<\/h3>\n

You\u2019ll need high endurance and sturdy joints to take part in the Oxfam Trailwalker, as you\u2019ll be hiking up and down several hills and mountains! A notable aspect of this fundraising event is that it\u2019s a team activity, with groups of four challenging themselves to finish the 100km Maclehose Trail within 48 hours. To enter that race, all teams must raise the minimum sponsorship amount and have all members be 18 years old by the day of the race. In 2024, the Oxfam Trailwalker 100km will take place from 15 to 17 November, while a special 40km race will also be held from 15 to 16 November. This new 40th Anniversary Edition race challenges newcomers to complete 40km in 20 hours from Pak Tam Chung to Fei Ngo Shan. For those skipping the 2024 race, it\u2019s never too early to start training for 2025!<\/p>\n

6. RaceBase Asia (2024 edition in progress)<\/h3>\n

A team of passionate and experienced trailrunners started RaceBase to bring together racers of all levels to explore Hong Kong\u2019s many accessible and scenic trails. A number of 2024 races are still on the schedule, and a few 2025 events are already marked on the calendar! In 2024, the Run Charity Race (8km for adults or 1.5km for kids) takes place on 23 November in Parkview to support vulnerable refugees; while the Pride Run (5km or 9km) takes place on 8 December in Aberdeen Country Park to celebrate diversity. 7. Kerry Hong Kong Streetathon (2024 edition in progress)<\/h3>\n

This unique city-centred marathon is a party for all! The Kerry Hong Kong Streetathon 2024 is taking place around Victoria Harbour with three race distances: The Full Marathon (42.195km), Half-Marathon (21km), and 10km (the actual distance being 10.4km). The competitions will occur on 8 December, with registration for the 2024 event still available to both local and overseas participants. Runners are encouraged to dress up in fun outfits (but make sure your costume doesn\u2019t slow you down!), so watching racers fly by will be a hoot for spectators as well. The 2025 event is just around the corner, too, so stay sharp!<\/p>\n

8. China Coast Marathon & Half-Marathon (2025 registration open)<\/h3>\n

This running race in Hong Kong was first held in 1981 and is still going strong today, with registration now open for the 2025 edition. The 2025 China Coast Marathon & Half-Marathon takes runners through Sai Kung on 12 January for a tough race that\u2019s meant to push even seasoned runners. Those over 18 are encouraged to enter the various age and gender categories for a chance to win prizes as a top three finisher. China Coast Marathon & Half-Marathon is an event arranged by runners for runners, so make sure you don\u2019t litter, follow rules, and hydrate diligently at the water stations, set up every 5km.<\/p>\n

9. Hong Kong 100 Ultra (2025 registration open) \u2013 (name change)<\/h3>\n

Looking for Hong Kong running races in 2025? It\u2019s time to start signing up for the Hong Kong 100 Ultra! The 2025 HK100 events will take place from 16 to 18 January, with three varying distances: 33km for The Third, 56km for The Half, and 103km for HK100. Wanna push yourself extra hard? Try achieving the Grand Slam by completing all three distances over three consecutive days. Each leg of the race goes through beautiful parts of Hong Kong, including the Sai Kung Peninsula and the UNESCO Global Geopark. Spaces are filling up quickly, so register now. Good luck!<\/p>\n

10. Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon (2025 registration open)<\/h3>\n

One of the most anticipated annual marathons in Hong Kong, the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon will be held on 9 February in 2025. Maintaining its quota from last year, 74,000 runners are eligible to race. Run the full, try the half, or sign up for the 10km category. Disabled athletes won\u2019t be left out either, as they can join the Wheelchair Race! To amp up the competitiveness, the SCHKM is increasing the number of age groups in 2025 from eight to 20 \u2013 with the top three runners from each group being awarded.<\/p>\n

As an extra incentive for runners who are Hong Kong permanent residents, the Marathon Special Incentive Award is up for grabs again this year. Each male finishing within three hours and each female finishing within 3.5 hours will win a prize of $1,000! Online registration is already underway in phases, so sign up and start training today.<\/p>\n

11. Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Half Marathon (Hong Kong section) (2025 registration closed)<\/h3>\n

Lace up your sneakers, because the 2025 Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Half Marathon (Hong Kong section) is taking place on 5 January. This event is organised by Hong Kong China Association of Athletics Affiliates (HKAAA) in partnership with Bank of China. The 21km race is open to those over 16 years old, with differing entrance requirements for local and non-local participants. The half-marathon operates on a time limit to facilitate the opening and closing of certain roads, so be sure to race ahead of the cut-off time! While registration for the 2025 race is closed, you can always start training now for the 2026 event.<\/p>\n

The 2024 edition of the Four Trails Mini races may have already ended, but it\u2019s never too early to start training for 2025! While the 2025 running races in Hong Kong have yet to be announced, 2024 saw four races taking place from March to May, so it\u2019s a safe bet that the events next year will follow a similar structure. The Four Trails Mini races consist of the Hong Kong Trail (16.4km), Maclehose Trail (16km), Wilson Trail (17.4km), and Lantau Trail (13.5km). There are several age categories available for both men and women, with the top three in each category receiving prizes for single races, as well as overall champions for those participating in all four races. Get ready to burn a whole lot of calories!<\/p>\n
