While there are plenty of vegan restaurants in Hong Kong<\/a> that deliver great cross-cultural dishes, such as POP Vegan<\/a>, Confusion Plant Based Kitchen<\/a> and Green Common<\/a>, it\u2019s far from easy to find a vegan version of traditional Cantonese hot pot. Thankfully, Chinese vegan restaurant Pure Veggie House serves a limited number of their seasonal vegan hot pots every winter, gracing all local vegans with a scrumptious winter experience with their family and friends – and trust me, this food will get non-vegans drooling too.<\/p>\n

Located in Mid-Levels, Central, Pure Veggie House is a spacious modern Chinese vegan restaurant established in 2007 that is dedicated to promoting nature and harmony. Much beloved by both local vegans and expats, they\u2019re renowned for crafting the most delicate and luscious vegan dim sum<\/a>, with some of our absolute favourites being vegetable shumai, pineapple bbq pork bun and truffle rice noodle rolls.<\/p>\n

Each winter (from October to end of January), Pure Veggie House brings back their special all-you-can-eat hot pot dinner menu for hot pot lovers, featuring a wide range of sumptuous toppings and broth flavours. Their iconic Four Flavours Sampler allows customers to choose their preferred soup flavours out of the colourful five – including Termite Mushroom Soup, Spicy Sichuan Style Soup, Thai Style Tom Yum Soup, Turnip Sweet Corn & Pepper Soup and Tomato & Potato Soup with Coriander. <\/p>\n

Tried and tested by our team (which includes both vegans and non-vegans), the Thai Tom Yum Soup and Spicy Sichuan Style Soup have won the popular vote for being uniquely flavourful and aromatic, while flavours like Tomato & Potato Soup with Coriander are perfect for those who fancy a milder and healthier taste. I especially enjoy the depth of flavours of the Tom Yum Soup, it makes your basic tofu and shiitake mushrooms taste ten times better. <\/p>\n

Elm mushrooms and morel mushrooms have got unique textures that are unlike other kinds of mushrooms<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Even though everything here is fully vegan, it\u2019s not just plain greens, root vegetables or bean curd sheets like you\u2019d normally expect from a Chinese vegan restaurant. Pure Veggie House manages to present a comprehensive selection of fresh vegetables, soy products, mushrooms, as well as Chinese \u201cmeat\u201d-balls and \u201cseafood\u201d. Down to try something unconventional and utterly delicious? We recommend you to try their minced mushroom ball, taro ball and vegetarian minced ball and king oyster mushroom – soon you\u2019ll be ordering a second or third plate.<\/p>\n

There is a wide range of dipping sauces available at the sauce bar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

While the selection of toppings at Pure Veggie House is a real winner, you can\u2019t miss out on their dipping sauces too. Ranging from sesame paste, peanut paste, red chili sauce, ginger oil to satay sauce, each of their dipping sauce has a distinctive taste that helps elevate the flavours of your meal. And if I were to choose only one, I\u2019d say go after their satay sauce. <\/p>\n
