In Hong Kong, vegetarian restaurants and online stores are popping up every month, including Confusion Plant Based Kitchen<\/a>, Veda<\/a> and The Vege Lab<\/a>. Having been a vegan for eight years, it\u2019s delightful to witness the rise of veganism in mainstream culture, especially when vegans are also taking over the internet as social media influencers to help spread the message. Sometimes you resonate with them and sometimes you can\u2019t help but find what they do funny (yes, I said it – funny). So here are the seven types of vegans that you\u2019ve probably encountered on Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr or even Pinterest. #VegansOfIG? What kind of vegan are you?<\/p>\n

Seven types of vegans that you find on social media<\/h2>\n

1. The yogi vegan<\/h3>\n

\"Types<\/p>\n

When speaking about the types of vegans you find online, you can\u2019t miss the yogi. It\u2019s all about yin and yang, chakra and inner peace. They can always deliver the best bow pose in front of a sunset and take the perfect Instagram shot. And you wonder how many shots they\u2019ve taken until they get this one.<\/p>\n

2. The punk rock vegan<\/h3>\n

\"types<\/p>\n

Punk rock vegans are edgy. They probably have a tattoo sleeve, wear black lipstick and change their hair colour every month. If they\u2019re not into the punk rock scene, it is probably indie rock, hardcore or psychedelic music (one of these three). Favourite anthem? The Smiths\u2019 Meat is Murder. Favourite hardcore band that is vegan? While She Sleeps.<\/p>\n

3. The fully raw vegan<\/h3>\n

\"Types<\/p>\n

High temperature kills enzymes. Raw vegans follow a fully raw vegan diet that strictly incorporates only fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts and anything that is not cooked (but dehydrated is fine). Forget about beans and quinoa, it\u2019s all about cashew cheese, zucchini noodles and acai bowls<\/a>.<\/p>\n

4. The high carb vegan<\/h3>\n

\"Types<\/p>\n

Probably inspired by Freelee the banana girl, the high carb vegan praises the carbs and curses the fats #hclf – high carb low fat. They can eat ten bananas (all have to be super ripe!), consume 3000 calories a day and still don\u2019t gain weight. Also, running ten miles is no challenge to them.<\/p>\n

5. The vegan activist<\/h3>\n

\"Types<\/p>\n

The activists do a lot of good work in raising awareness of animal-cruelty. “Meat is Murder” is their middle name and they probably wear the shirt that says \u201cplant-based\u201d or \u201ctofu never screams\u201d on it while they\u2019re protesting.<\/p>\n

6. The vegan foodie<\/h3>\n

The foodies know all the greatest vegan offerings in town and they will keep you posted on Instagram every day, from the best damn vegan beetroot burger and truffle oil pizza to pasta with avocado basil pesto. They will know how to get that perfect angle, as if the food is waving at you. Think vegan food is boring? A slap in the face for you.<\/p>\n

7. The vegan hippie<\/h3>\n

The vegan hippies live out their bohemian Tumblr dreams. They dress themselves in hemp robes, wear flower garlands and own an upcycled and artisan made bag.
