Whether it\u2019s casual cuisine at Confusion Plant Based Kitchen<\/a>, romantic evenings at our favourite French restaurants in Hong Kong<\/a> or a dose of street food<\/a> to feed that snack hunger, we love food in all shapes and all sizes. And recently, we got our chopsticks into Yat Tung Heen inside the Eaton Hotel. The place looks a-mazing and we\u2019re so happy that the food delivers too! <\/p>\n

As a Brit, fine dining Chinese was hard to come by in the UK. You\u2019d often find a menu corrupted by our needs for something sweet and sour (sigh), but coming to Hong Kong and having the opportunity to eat authentic Michelin-starred Chinese food has had me doing cartwheels. It may not be good ol\u2019 fashioned Cornish fish n\u2019 chips, but: new country new me!<\/p>\n

Setting the scene<\/h3>\n

Set off one of the main roads in Jordan, the restaurant is tucked below ground level at the impressive Eaton Hotel. Before the chopsticks even reach the mouth at Yat Tung Heen, you\u2019re greeted by the designs of internationally-renowned interiors firm AvroKo. The ambience is very reminiscent of Shanghai in the 1920s: dimly lit, mysterious and luxurious, and this atmosphere certainly takes the dining experience to a whole new level.<\/p>\n

So what about the food? <\/h3>\n

I enjoyed a selection of dishes at Yat Tung Heen, with eight reasonably sized portions that allowed me to appreciate the level of skills and taste in each individual dish. The absolute highlight for me was the Simmered Leopard Coral Garoupa in Peppercorn and Preserved cabbage Broth. It\u2019s a must eat! Fish that\u2019s been steamed for too long can sometimes lose its flavour, but thankfully this was prepared to perfection, and if it wasn\u2019t for dinner table etiquette, I would’ve been surrounded with a tower of empty bowls.<\/p>\n

The restaurant\u2019s delicate bitesized tiger prawn dish was another standout. A great appetizer to kickstart your evening, Yat Tung Heen presents two prawns, one sweet & sour (but the good kind) \u00a0and the other sauteed, and they\u2019re really worth tasting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Enjoy one of Hong Kong\u2019s favourite dishes with a touch of Michelin flair. This little bundle of joy has a process far too complex for my understanding, but having eaten quite a few grains in my time I can recommend this anyone looking for a taste of Hong Kong. It\u2019s like unravelling presents at Christmas, be sure to give it a good mash before tasting as to mix all the meats and vegetable hidden under the surface and savior the wonderful taste. <\/p>\n

Round off the night with a trio of delicacies that work in perfect tandem. There isn’t a photo that can do this justice, so you’ll just have to take our word on it. Jump from crispy custard buns to chilled mango sago cream and lastly a sticky rice pancake. We loved the opportunity to taste the contrast between texture, flavour and sweetness.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Would I be back?<\/h3>\n

As a fine dining restaurant, Yat Tung Heen delivers in all departments. Away from the kitchen, Eaton Hotel is an inspiring location, made to embolden the local community and give back to the neighborhood that surrounds it, and it also partners with a range of local charities. It\u2019s a business that is worth supporting!\u00a0<\/p>\n
