From opulent restaurants in Kowloon Bay like <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/hong-kong\/le-pan-french-restaurant-fine-dining\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Le Pan<\/a>, to stunning Cantonese fare at <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/hong-kong\/food-news-chef-ho-chung-sha-tin-18-home-style-chinese-menu-classic-flavours\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sha Tin 18<\/a> and our favourite <a href=\"https:\/\/thehoneycombers.com\/hong-kong\/yau-ma-tei-restaurants-dai-pai-dongs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">restaurants in Yau Ma Tei<\/a>, we like to scour the entire city for delicious eating options. A mere 15 minute MTR journey from Admiralty (or just five minutes from Mong Kok!), Rustico in Lai Chi Kok is a Spanish restaurant that serves traditional tapas in a cosy setting, and right now they are highlighting seasonal ingredients from Spain. In Lai Chi Kok, he harnesses all of the skills he has learned along the way and adds in a big old dose of heart to create dishes that warm you from the inside out<\/p>\n<h3><b>Seasonal Spanish seafood at Rustico<\/b><\/h3>\n<figure id=\"attachment_146487\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-146487\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-146487 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Rustico-Spanish-restaurant-Lai-Chi-Kok-Hong-Kong-interior-e1511922990109.jpg\" alt=\"interiors at Rustico in Lai Chi Kok\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 900px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 900\/600;\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-146487\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Get cosy at Rustico in Lai Chi Kok<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As first timers to the restaurant we were super excited to see what would be served from the kitchen. We started with one of the signature drinks, the Oasis cocktail, which was essentially a frozen lime, rum, mint and basil slushy with a prawn on top &#8211; yum! The cocktail itself was super refreshing and the prawns didn\u2019t last long at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To keep hunger at bay, we tried the lovely\u00a0Rustic Spanish Toast Crystal Bread with SpanishTomato \u201cde Colgar\u201d, Garlic and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Smashed and peeled, we rubbed that beautiful garlic all over the bread before topping with stunning tomato; so simple, so beautiful, so Spanish! The Catalan Omelette was fabulous too, packed full of white beans and spring garlic, we would definitely recommend.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_146361\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-146361\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-146361 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Rustico-Pan-seared-Sea-Cucumber-restaurant-Spanish-Lai-Chi-Kok-Hong-Kong-food-e1511920911103.jpg\" alt=\"sea cucumber at Rustico Lai Chi Kok\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 900px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 900\/600;\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-146361\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">If you are a fan of cauliflower cheese or creamy macaroni, you will love the warming sea cucumber dish at Rustico<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Next up we tried the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pan Seared Spanish Sea Cucumber \u201cEsparde\u00f1as\u201d with Creamy Potato, Saut\u00e9ed Artichokes and Parsley Pesto Catalonia style. Wow! The mix of the sea cucumber and the moorish potato with the crispy artichoke was fabulous. We could have eaten one of those each, as the dish was just that good.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_146359\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-146359\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-146359 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Rustico-Atlantic-Venus-Clams-restaurant-Spanish-Lai-Chi-Kok-Hong-Kong-food-e1511920930906.jpg\" alt=\"clams at Rustico Lai Chi Kok\" width=\"900\" height=\"600\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 900px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 900\/600;\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-146359\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">With a fragrant wine flavour, the clams at Rustico were beautifully fresh<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Atlantic Venus Clams in \u201cAlbari\u00f1o\u201d White Wine from North West of Spain \u00a0were everything a good wine and shellfish dish should be &#8211; packed full of flavour with loads of sauce left over for dipping bread into. However, there wasn\u2019t much time for dipping, as the Traditional Juicy Spider Crab Rice \u201cArroz de Centolla\u201d Northern Spain Basque Style \u00a0soon arrived at the table. Atop a pan of beautifully cooked rice &#8211; I guess best described as something between a risotto and paella &#8211; sat oodles of gorgeous crab, whose flavour was seeped through the rice below. \u201cProbably not the best first date dish,\u201d in the words of my dining companion, this was comfort food to the maximum degree, and possibly the newest addition to my list of death row dishes (though I hope I never actually have to request it!)<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_146362\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-146362\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-146362 size-full lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/static.thehoneycombers.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/11\/Rustico-Pan-seared-Whole-Turbot-restaurant-Spanish-Lai-Chi-Kok-Hong-Kong-food-e1511921007239.jpg\" alt=\"Turbot at Rustico Lai Chi Kok\" width=\"900\" height=\"642\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 900px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 900\/642;\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-146362\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Highlighting the flavour of the fish with the mere addition of chili, garlic and parsley, the whole turbot was heavenly<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Finally (although already stuffed, but with a mindset that we needed to give a fully rounded review), we tried the Basque Style Pan-Seared Spanish Whole Turbot 650 Grams \u201cA la Espalda\u201d with Garlic, Chili and Parsley. This fish was delightful. With a crispy herbed coating on the outside, there was a lot of beautiful meat on it and the lovely chargrilled carrots, courgettes and tomatoes on the side were an added bonus.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Would we go back?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Well, unless you slept through that entire story, then you already know the answer to that. The food was refreshingly authentic. It was top quality, but with that added dose of love that I believe all the best food has, plus the fact that they change menus to suit the produce means that there will always be something new. Take someone you love (or want to love) to Rustico and woo them over the hearty food. But maybe you shouldn\u2019t order the crab if you expect a kiss at the end.
