For ease, and in the interest of public health, we’ve put together a list of recommended public social hygiene clinics, non-governmental centres and private sectors in Hong Kong, so you can go get your regular STD testing in Hong Kong done at a trustworthy place.
Why it’s important to get STD testing in Hong Kong
There’s only one downside to getting your freak on as far as we can see, and that’s disease! According to The Centre for Health Protection, the most common local sexually transmitted diseases include syphilis, gonorrhea, non-gonococcal urethritis (male), non-specific genital infection (female), genital herpes, genital wart, pubic lice, chlamydia, and HIV/AIDS. No matter who you’re sleeping with, people who are sexually active should receive regular check-ups to make sure they haven’t contracted any STDs. Is it the most fun thing to do with your time? No, but who wants to have to deal with the flipside? Prevention is definitely the best cure here, people.
The city has different options for every location, price bracket and preference, so there’s really no excuse. Time to schedule your STD testing in Hong Kong, maybe…
i) Public clinics
Social hygiene clinics that offer STD testing
The social hygiene clinics of the Department of Health offer STD testing that’s free of charge for eligible Hong Kong residents/HKID-holders, and that’s pretty amazing. There are a total of four social hygiene clinics in servicce for females and males (located in Wan Chai, Kwun Tong, Tuen Mun, and Fanling), as well as treatment and counselling services available.
While the good thing is these clinics don’t require doctor’s referral, they do only accept walk-ins. This means you may have to block some serious time in the diary for this one, but these clinics are definitely the most cost-effective way to get STD testing in Hong Kong done. Note that they are closed on weekends and public holidays.

ii) Non-governmental clinics
The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong
An organisation that you may already be familiar with, The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong (香港家庭計劃指導會, or 家計會) offers men’s and women’s health services, including preliminary screening for a range of STDs, at their local clinics – with various locations in Wan Chai, Ma Tau Chung, Wong Tai Sin, Yuen Long, and Tsuen Wan. The FPA operates by appointment only and it tends to get especially busy during holiday season, so make sure you book ahead.
There are a number of STD testing packages charged at different rates available at FPA. These include Female/Male Sexually Transmissible Diseases Screening 1 (blood test for treponemal antibody by EIA and HIV Ag/Ab combo) from $250; Female Sexually Transmissible Diseases Screening 2 (cervical swab for chlamydia trachomatis and neisseria gonorrhoeae DNA by PCR, HVS for trichomonas and monilia) from $550; and Male Sexually Transmissible Diseases Screening 2 (urine for chlamydia trachomatis and neisseria gonorrhoeae DNA by PCR) from $550. So pick and choose as necessary.
If you’re an unmarried female below the age of 26, make use of the FPA’s Youth Health Care services. Not only does the organisation provide the same STD screening packages for women (as mentioned above), you can also be assured that it’s strictly confidential.

AIDS Concern is the first NGO in Hong Kong committed to the service of AIDS-care and consultation.
